I'll pull the band-aid for most people leaving the service (No one did this for me). Stop applying to jobs when you are 6+ months out. Just stop. Yes we (I say we because I was in the service and transferred 5 times on orders) typically plan moves WELL in advance. It is (not can be) frustrating to not have something setup, I had TOO many opportunities pass by me because I was still 3+ months out (I'm looking at you SpaceX). Yet it all worked out and I get to work with elite special forces. 2-3 months out is a good window to start applying, some companies may take that long to even make a hiring decision (not me). Have a set date that you can start working too.

As many of you know, JPL laid off 530 employees yesterday (and around 150+ contractors since the start of the year) as a result of budget uncertainties due to the lack of action at the Congressional level. The total number is around 10% of our total workforce, 8% yesterday alone. For those of you affected - first of all, my heart breaks for you. I am so sorry. Several companies are currently hiring. I have more topics to write on, however today I will just update everyone on my job search status. I seem to have entered yet another phase on the road which is the engagement of the recruiters (and recruiters who are looking to engage, I suggest this is an optimal time). This is a welcome development, as I can tell my publicity, if you will, is getting some more traction. I'll post some more in my local group later as I have had some requests. And of course my job search continues, at a higher intensity. On the personal side I have completed a rather challenging Starlink installation, which has resulted in my learning some new tools, techniques and technologies relative to antenna installation in a very windy environment. The digital side was simple - the mechanical side was the challenge. Junk removal is on the agenda tomorrow - remember the good old days when you could just haul it out and leave it on the curb? Ha Ha Ha... Thanks for following and I will write more substantively next time.

Captain's Log, Stardate 2024.05.06 The search for an entry-level software engineering position continues, akin to navigating a particularly perplexing nebula. Despite firing off 220+ applications, the response remains as elusive as a cloaked Bird-of-Prey. In this cosmic game of hide-and-seek, I find myself pondering if I've stumbled into a Klingon cloaking field of joblessness. Perhaps it's time to take a page from Captain Kirk's playbook and boldly go where no applicant has gone before.
