I’ve got some exciting news to share with you. Today I am launching my new creative film production company: 10/10. Besides being a creative production house, 10/10 will serve as an international agency for directors and an inspiration platform for creatives worldwide. A 10/10 film will show you something in a way you’ve never seen before: heart-pounding, reality-shifting, barrier-breaking or phone-tilting good. Making that kind of film is not science, it’s personal, a matter of taste and never-ending curation. 10/10 stands for the endless pursuit of perfection, attention to the smallest details, and the craftsmanship behind it. It is with that craftsmanship that films are created that make us awe. Over the past months, I have worked incredibly hard on building this new brand, assembling a handpicked roster of directors, and establishing valuable international connections in Amsterdam, London, Berlin, Cape Town, and Los Angeles. At the launch, 10/10’s roster includes three directors. Ted Alkemade, based in the Netherlands/Ibiza, known for the Cannes Lion-winning case ‘The Bookcase for Tolerance’. Ivan Boljat, based in Berlin, was responsible for AirUp’s international campaign. Tom Clover, based in London, collaborated with Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick for his commercials for Shares. In this new adventure, my three great passions come together: my love for the magic that only film possesses, developing talent, and working internationally on projects with boundary-pushing creativity. Unrestrained by borders, we will create amazing film: commercials, music videos, and I no longer shy away from the big screen too. I am incredibly excited about it! BASED ON A TRUE STORY.
🎥🎞️ A CORPORATE VIDEO UNLIKE ANY OTHER. When I was in school, I was fascinated by the media industry, especially films. Like many boys, I dreamt of being a part of it, but my stage fright, terrible talent for any form of art, and typical Indian parental expectations kept me far away from it. Fast forward two decades, a small piece of that childhood dream finally came to life: I got an opportunity to make SANTHI’s corporate film. What made it thrilling was that it had to be written, shot, and edited in 1 week with a very tight budget. What made it even more thrilling was that I had to ‘direct’ my wife, who played the lead. Directing her is something that doesn’t happen too often. I scribbled a short story on a piece of paper and called my go to person for anything that involves creativity - my super talented sister, Gowri. In two days, we formalized the script and decided to dive into production. The location, cast, and props were all decided in the last minute — mostly on the go. A big thank you to team Out of Focus who agreed to help us coordinate and shoot in very short notice. We simultaneously worked on voice recording and post production as well. Managing day to day work alongside shooting, quickly turned things into a delightful chaos but the amazing support team at Santhi along with Pavithra and the production team ensured that we got it done. The deadline on time did not allow us to plan the way we might have wanted but I am glad it was that way because the less we planned, the more authentic the video turned out to be. There was less of acting, and more of real emotions. There was less of directing, and more of free expression. There was less of scripted dialogues and more of genuine words. It might not be the most typical corporate film, but it is definitely the most real one. But what makes red so popular? Today, we'll go over just that. There are lots of studies that say red stands out amongst other colors and might even get you a speeding ticket, but according to color psychology, there's some deeper stuff at work here. I suppose we can blame The Wizard of Oz for the onset of red in film. In the book, Dorothy's slippers were silver, but the crew wanted the shoes to pop on screen. Since Green and Yellow already had significant roles in the film, they went with ruby slippers. And the rest is history. That makes sense since a lot of his movies wind up being bloody messes, but look at shots like this one from The Departed and check out this article we did on his editing. Everything Scorsese does is purposeful, so he's using red in his movies to let you know what's going on within the characters...and sometimes even to show a shade of the devil. According to Color Psychology, red has the following associations: Associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. It attracts attention more than any other color, at times signifying danger. As you can see, this covers many needs for a filmmaker to convey tone and ideas. The color red serves as a versatile tool for filmmakers, allowing them to visually communicate complex emotions, themes, and ideas, while also creating a memorable and impactful cinematic experience. Its use can quickly and effectively convey these feelings to the audience, adding depth and intensity to a scene. Red can also symbolize important themes like power, sacrifice, or even warning or danger. Visual Impact and Attention: Red stands out against most other colors, instantly drawing the viewer's eye to specific elements within the frame. This can be used to highlight important characters, objects, or actions, guiding the audience's focus. I've always found it a bit disappointing how in many Hollywood movies, the credits roll and all you see are the names of the actors, directors, and other key players involved in making the film. While it's undoubtedly important to recognize their contributions, I can't help but agree with Julie Andrews and her sentiment expressed at the AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards last year. There should be more acknowledgment of the countless individuals behind the scenes who work tirelessly to bring these cinematic masterpieces to life. When you think about it, a movie is the culmination of the efforts of so many people - from the writers who craft the story, to the producers who secure funding and make crucial decisions, to the costume designers, set builders, and special effects teams who create the visual world we see on screen. The list goes on and on, encompassing editors, sound engineers, composers, and so many more. Each of these individuals pours their heart and soul into their respective roles, often laboring long hours under tight deadlines to ensure that every aspect of the film is just right. Yet, when the credits roll, their names are often relegated to a scrolling list at the end, easily overlooked as moviegoers make their way out of the theater. It's not just about recognition, though that's certainly important. It's also about acknowledging the collaborative nature of filmmaking and the fact that every person involved plays a vital role in the finished product. By only highlighting the names of the most prominent figures, we risk diminishing the contributions of those who work tirelessly behind the scenes. I believe that Hollywood should take a cue from other industries that celebrate their entire team's efforts. Just as a book includes an acknowledgments section where the author thanks everyone who helped bring their vision to life, so too should movies make an effort to recognize the many individuals who contribute to their success. Imagine if instead of just seeing the names of the actors and directors, we were treated to a montage showcasing the various departments and teams that worked on the film. We could see clips of the writers brainstorming ideas, the set designers bringing intricate worlds to life, and the editors painstakingly piecing together each scene. It would not only be a fitting tribute to their hard work but also provide audiences with a greater appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into filmmaking. Of course, change is never easy, and there are logistical challenges to consider. But with advancements in technology and creative storytelling, there's no reason why Hollywood couldn't find a way to incorporate more comprehensive credits into their films. So here's to hoping that one day, Hollywood takes Julie Andrews wise words to heart and ensures that the names at the end of movies represent the collective efforts of all who contribute to bringing magic to the silver screen.
