An important new report from PPCA dropped today. Why important? Because it clearly demonstrates how Australian musicians and the local music industry in general would benefit from the removal of radio caps. No one wants to drive radio stations out of business; in fact, the report by PPCA and Mandala shows the impact of scrapping the caps on the radio industry's profitability would be negligible. Radio and music have long worked hand in glove. All PPCA and the music industry wants is the ability to negotiate fair pay for what's played on radio. Fair is the key word. As PPCA boss Annabelle Herd says: “The report shows how a fair rate would deliver additional income for Australian artists, as well as drive increased investment from labels into local artist development and promotion, helping an industry that is a proven economic and social contributor reach its full potential." #FairRadioPlay #ScrapTheCap
IF RADIO CAPS ARE REMOVED... - It could lead to an additional $4.8 million paid to Australian artists in royalties in 2024-25 - Artists played on radio could see up to $19,100 in additional income per year, or a 78% increase in income - Top commercial radio stations would maintain profit margins of 15% if they paid the same rate for sound recordings as they do for musical works - Increased reinvestment from record labels could see double the number of new local artists played on radio for the first time FULL REPORT: https://lnkd.in/diyanaMH #FairRadioPlay #ScrapTheCap #PPCA #AusMusic

The movie business is inherently risky. Consider a film with a budget of 100 crores. Even if it grosses 150 crores at the box office, more than 75 crores typically goes to theatre owners. Adding revenue from digital and music rights might bring the total to 150 crores, but this still results in no profit despite the film being a hit. This highlights the slim margins and high stakes involved in the industry.

For directors, music supervisors, and film editors, finding the right music off the shelf for underscore can be challenging. There's a ton of music out there ready for sync licensing. Songs are easier to choose because the style is clear off the bat. Orchestral underscore typically goes through changes in mood and feeling during a single cue which makes it difficult to fit under video. However we try to solve this by providing loopable sections, endings, build ups, and variations of orchestration. Quick auditioning is also essential. Here's a track I produced a decade ago for a film with the Budapest Film Orchestra and Boys Choir. For quick auditioning, listen to the Hook clips. https://lnkd.in/gZS7Wpvt #musicsupervisor #filmproduction #editor #video #synclicensing

The music industry and film industry is in need of a different approach with their contracts and the payment and revenue royalties with African Americans getting paid more from the industry then the lesser wages they receive from their negotiations. Agencies and these other mainstream companies need to make new negotiation rulings from cost-of-living and the benefits given to their clients. #UnionMusicAndFilm #NewNegotiationRules

BACC Celebrates Women-Owned Businesses Today we celebrate, Notes of Celebration and Linda R Smith 1. How Long Have you been in business? I've been in business since 2001, on purpose - 12 years. On the side since I was 16 2. What brought you to this path? God had been preparing me for becoming a professional musician - a piano teacher in college wanted me to become a professional musician but I wanted a family so I went into Elementary Music Education. Taught K-6 music for 7 years, started a family, and taught private piano for 20 years (playing for weddings and events on the side and accompanying singers and musicals). In 2001 God said, "Just play the piano". Each step along the way prepared me for Notes of Celebration. 3. What has been your biggest obstacle or challenge? My biggest obstacle has been limiting my gig acceptance to the price point I am worth. I have learned that my value cannot be discounted. 4. What has been your biggest accomplishment? One of my biggest/proudest achievements has been playing the opening act for Michael Allen Harrison 5. What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being a women-owned business? Always charge what you are worth - don't discount! #BACC #WomenInBusiness #Celebrate
