Spearheaded by ICREA professor Kasper Moth-Poulsen from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), this innovative technology aims to tackle the challenges of variable solar energy output and unpredictable energy needs. The hybrid device boasts a record-breaking energy storage efficiency of 2.3% for molecular solar thermal energy. It also reduces the temperature of photovoltaic cells by up to 8°C, boosting overall efficiency by 12.6%. The system demonstrates a solar utilization efficiency of 14.9%, surpassing previous hybrid technologies.
