An enriching journey as a Soft Skills and English Language Trainer! I am thrilled to reflect on my first induction at FEA, Induction number 168, which took place from 3rd October to 15th November, 2022. It was an incredible experience filled with valuable lessons and unforgettable moments. 🌍 Diversity Throughout the induction, I had the privilege of working with a diverse group of individuals from different backgrounds and cultures. Embracing diversity not only enriched the learning experience but also reminded me of the power of inclusivity in education. 🤝 Building rapport The heart of effective teaching lies in building strong connections with my trainees. A humbling and yet exciting experience we have had in our training this last week and you know, a cheer to having some brilliant services at our fingertips to incorporate into our training. This week we trained a group of amazing professionals, who deal with really stressful situations in their working day. One of the participants they were English as their second language. Exceptionally intelligent with just a few things lost in translation - bring on Google translate. We incorporated google translate, along side our hands on training and demonstrations (we even threw in a few jokes for good measure) and guess what! our participant, excelled throughout the 2 days of training, and also went away up there in the top of the class and completely confident in what they had learned. Now if we hadn't thought outside the box, do you think this participant would have left with satisfaction? maybe? However we know that they after 2 days did feel like they mattered, and that they could be an effective first responder, with confidence. Why do we take the time to do this, because we care, we stand by our ethos of if we don't think you can save our life, we won't let you leave. Training in first aid is our passion, we aren't here just to tick a box, it is totally our jam. We want to make sure your experience is the same. If you have additional or different learning needs, then speak to us, we will do whatever we can to ensure you get the absolute most out of your time with us.

I saw that Veena Krishnamurthy is running a "Train the Trainer" webinar for the Skills for English: SELT next week. This looks like a must-attend event. Some people in the test prep space are puzzled about why their business is decreasing, even though a record number of people are taking English tests. They aren't even aware of the smorgasbord of new testing options that has emerged in the past five years. This is a good opportunity to learn about one such option! Speaking of which, I can't resist the urge to repeat the same point I've made on this website every week for years. It is this: legacy testing firms are still struggling to innovate in terms of technology, delivery and customer service. This means that an even greater number of test takers will opt for newer tests in the years ahead.

A company once asked me why they should invest in quality English training. My answer: Don’t hamper highly paid, valuable staff – give them confidence and empower them to do their work as experts, both in their mother tongue and in English. Competency in the English language can streamline workflows and boost communication in expensive projects – a wise investment!

'Reflections of a teacher trainer' is the title of Zorica Kovacevic's essay in More Than a Gap Year Adventure (https://lnkd.in/en2Wi9ve). If you are considering becoming a teacher trainer, you should definitely read this text. Zorica has a lot of experience with running both in-person and online courses. She promotes the idea that teacher training is much more than just knowledge transfer, and her empathetic approach focuses on helping trainees develop their skills. If you've read the full essay, what did you think of it? Have you met any great teacher trainers who influenced your career? What qualities are needed to be a good teacher trainer?
