I guess the battles of perception have just begun between the depth perception technologies (Stereo cameras, LidARs and Time-Of-Flight). 2D vision based solutions have the early movers advantage in terms of accelerated libraries, datasets, AI/ML models etc. The journey for making sense out of point clouds have just begun. VanJee Technology has strategically positioned itself with a robust production capacity plan, boasting a nearly 50,000 square meter intelligent manufacturing facility in Shunyi, Beijing. Pushing the limits of the #Quest3 depth sensor... I could scan my entire apartment with #Quest3 in about 45 seconds with low light conditions. I could play a multiroom continuous session of First Encounters in less than a minute. (left image) I tried to do the same with my #iPhone12Pro #LiDAR scanner. It took 60+ seconds to get a scan. Some very dark corners could not be scanned. (right image) Even though the LiDAR on the #VisionPro should have a more extended range, the depth scanner on the #Quest3 is more versatile and battery-friendly. In other words, it is the best, most affordable option for indoor mixed reality use cases. SiLC Technologies, Inc has developed an innovative 4D FMCW Lidar system called the Eyeonic Vision Sensor, promising a range of over 3,000 feet for detecting and avoiding obstacles. Unlike traditional #lidar systems, this technology continuously varies the frequency of laser light to enhance object detection and provide richer information, including polarization characteristics. Despite its advanced capabilities, the system is compact enough to fit on a single silicon chip, making it easy to integrate into vehicles. While it requires multiple sensors for a full field of view, it holds potential applications beyond autonomous vehicles, such as drones and metrology. Though initially costly, the technology's adoption is expected to increase as production scales up, with partnerships indicating potential for earlier mass production than previously estimated.
