"food-insecure Americans" is a term used by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA. This term implies that it is an individual problem rather than a societal one. This term takes the sting out of the reality that, through no fault of their own, there are many Americans who are HUNGRY. #fooddeserts are real! The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program fails to help those at 80% Federal Poverty Level; which, includes some of the most vulnerable in our country's population--the elderly and disabled. And, the #mealsonwheels program is an absolute joke when it gives out moldy food! The Biden-Harris administration can virtue signal all they want with their National Strategy to Reduce Food Loss and Waste and Recycle Organics. It does NOT actually address the realities mentioned above and definitely does not address the fact that State Governments are implementing legislation to put #smallfarms out of business! The solution? Communities need to step the fuck up and Governments need to get the fuck out of their way and let them!

Good health is vital to the roles that agricultural workers play in sustaining our food supplies, caring for our environment, and safeguarding the social fabric of rural communities. EU policies, including the #CAP, can be coordinated to help improve the overall well-being of our agricultural workforce, as well as the wider rural population. 👉Our Policy Insights article: https://bit.ly/3KmFeHz

"Everyone Can Have Trusted Drinking Water" appears to be the Global call irrespective of the income status and innovation strengths of the countries. DIY is in focus to engage the consumers in assuring the quality of drinking 🚰 The EPA’s grant funding of 25 million dollar is invested to support a broad range of projects to help communities address drinking water concerns, from household water quality testing to monitoring for drinking water contaminants. The EPA funding announced May 21, 2024, advances President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda to help communities make real progress on critical drinking water upgrades. https://lnkd.in/dP3vf7Ng

In what will likely be an election year, farmers continue to face immense challenges on several fronts. However, despite its wealth of opportunities, agriculture is often overlooked in favour of other priorities. For many farmers, this has contributed to increased apathy, frustration, and political homelessness. Developing a viable pathway that enables farm businesses to produce healthy food in ways that meet our climate and nature goals is now essential ⚠️ Read our blog 'High stakes for food and farming in an election year' ➡️ https://ow.ly/LWAS50RalLT Download our UK Manifesto ➡️ https://ow.ly/EQim50RalLR

While on a panel yesterday I heard someone in the crowd ask, "how is it fair that only these EJ areas get special attention, shouldn't it be extended to all communities?" At first my thought process was, "how is this question still coming up?" But it just shows there's much more work to do. Existing environmental regulations have made great strides around the country but they've also missed large sections with concentrated sources of pollution and mobile sources. EJ aims to address that. Also yesterday I continued work on a project in Camden, NJ where the city has multiple impacts that are much more of an issue than within the rest of the county. Asthma rates, COPD, cardiovascular disease all much higher than state average as is the congestion of mobile sources and point sources of pollution. The New Jersey EJIS model aims to objectively examine the impacts that applicable facilities contribute to these adverse cumulative stressors. #environmentaljustice

ALL-NEW FROM TFI: SUFFOLK HOPES A NEW TAX WILL PROTECT OUR TAP WATER - BUT WILL LOCAL POLITICS FLUSH A GOOD CAUSE DOWN THE DRAIN? My blood test results came back in a cream-colored textured envelope, complete with a light blue font with high-quality raised lettering. In the Fall of 2023, I volunteered to participate in a long-term study conducted by the Yale School of Public Health seeking to understand how levels of environmental chemicals, particularly 1,4-Dioxane, found in Long Island’s drinking water would affect human blood as well as other health measures. In recent years, public awareness of the challenges that Long Island’s groundwater aquifers face has grown, thanks, in part, to the ever-evolving regulatory framework on both the state and federal level that has become more aggressive in reigning in substances like 1,4-Dioxane, as well as PFAS like perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl. Our policymakers have spent decades trying to ensure that Long Island’s drinking water remains potable for the foreseeable future. And that battle must never be lost. Prime example of when environmental protection is systematically underfunded and seemingly profits are given a higher priority. You reap what you sow. Now the public is demanding better environmental stewardship, and balance between environmental protection and economic gain. #waterquality #cleanrivers #environmentalmonitoring #citizenscience

📖 Poor water quality leads to severe consequences on human health and well-being, leaving disproportionate impacts on women, men, boys and girls due to inequalities stemming from physiological composition, age, socioeconomic conditions, disability, and restrictive social norms.
