VIOLENCE IS NOT GOING TO STOP ON ITS OWN — AND PUNISHMENT WON’T STOP IT EITHER Tragedies like this shooting of a San Francisco 49ers National Football League (NFL) player are 100% preventable — but we must summon the courage to buck popular but severely flawed and inadequate trends and start using robust, ongoing, proactive all-of-community crime prevention strategies, not just harsh punishments. Punishment doesn’t stop crime. Prevention efforts do. The best way to prevent crime is to teach people how to love their neighbor, and incentivize them to do so. There’s a reason why the Good Book places a premium on the phrase “love your neighbor.” L.O.V.E. Is The Answer teaches young people how to love their neighbor.
