We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us in Rancho Bernardo over the weekend for our second #WildfireSafety Fair of the year. For the first time, we held our event in The City of San Diego, expanding from our tradition of organizing it only in high wildfire threat districts. This shift underscores our belief that safety is a shared responsibility that extends beyond district boundaries. Attendees walked away not only with valuable emergency preparedness information but also with complimentary emergency kit supplies. We invite you to join us at our next event on Saturday, July 13, in Alpine. Learn more at sdge.com/fairs. 🎒

PRFN Wildfire Update from Chief Valerie Askoty - May 13, 2024 The Chief and Council, in collaboration with the CAO, have proactively established an Emergency Operations Centre (EOS) within the school premises. This initiative underscores our unwavering commitment to the safety of our community. We have meticulously assigned roles and responsibilities to our team, ensuring efficient management and regular communication with you. We are monitoring wildfires in the vicinity in collaboration with the government and stakeholders. This notice reminds all community members to take proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all. We've set up a plan to ensure all members receive updates regularly. We will take notices door to door to members, text, post online and on social media. We will continue to advise you in the event of an evacuation. Please be safe and Fire-Smart. Zero Tolerance for Fires: There should be absolutely no fires under any circumstances. This is a strict policy that we all must adhere to for our safety. Tie up your pets. All pets must be leashed so that the administration can go door to door with updated information if necessary. Be FireSmart. Follow these practices to help prevent the spread of Fire (View more here.) - Clean under your deck to remove any combustible material. - Clean and maintain gutters and roofs. - Keep decks clear of leaves and debris. - Keep grass and weeds cut below 10 centimetres. - Move firewood and lumber 10-30 metres away from the home. - Relocate propane tanks 10-30 metres away from the home, and remove ALL Jerry cans. Remember, we don't have access to emergency services in the area, so please be extra cautious, especially on your quads. We are here to help! This is a difficult and stressful time for all of us. Happy 4th of July from the Boy Scouts of America! As we celebrate our nation's independence, let's remember to stay safe and have fun! Here are some tips to ensure a great holiday: 🎆 Fireworks Safety: Leave the fireworks to the professionals. Enjoy public displays instead of setting off your own. 🎆 Grill with Care: Keep grills away from structures and supervise at all times. 🎆Hydrate and Apply Sunscreen: Stay cool and protect your skin from harmful UV rays. 🎆 Stay Informed: Know your local laws and regulations about fireworks and fire safety. 🎆 Be Mindful of Pets: Keep pets indoors and safe from the loud noises. 🎆 Have a blast, but stay safe! #IndependenceDay #StaySafe

MPA is supporting the #BeWaterAware campaign being run by the Fire and Rescue Service in April. The campaign highlights what people should do if they see someone in trouble in the water and helps raise public awareness about how to stay safe around water. With 60% of accidental #drownings occurring at inland waters such as rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs, and other water filled voids such as #quarry lakes, it is important that the public understand how to keep themselves safe whilst enjoying the countryside. Statistics show that 40% of people who accidentally drown never intended to enter the water, they may have been engaged in activities close to the water’s edge or a bank such as dog walking, running or simply messing around. Please share the resources and safety messages. Never swim in a quarry ✋ Swimming in quarries poses a multitude of dangers that should not be underestimated. These water-filled pits, while picturesque, conceal numerous hazards beneath their surface. Submerged machinery and equipment, unstable terrain, and sudden drop-offs can catch swimmers unaware, leading to accidents, injuries and possible fatalities. Cold water shock, strong underwater currents, and limited visibility further increase the risk, making it difficult to navigate safely. Additionally, stagnant water in quarries may harbor harmful bacteria, algae, and pollutants, posing health threats to those who come into contact with it. Let's not forget the legal ramifications. Trespassing in quarries or ignoring warning signs isn't just risky—it's illegal. Violators may face hefty fines or even criminal charges.
