Aionics' pioneering work in using AI to design batteries is officially a world-changing idea! We are excited to share that Aionics has been selected as an honoree in Fast Company's 2024 World Changing Ideas Awards. This year’s World Changing Ideas Awards showcase 50 winners, 127 finalists, and 172 honorable mentions—with health, education, energy, and AI among the most popular categories. Aionics was selected in the "Small And Mighty: Fewer than 50 Employees" category. “There are two parallel revolutions happening right now,” said Chief Executive Officer Dr. Austin Sendek. “One is the exponential trend in high-performance computing power and efficiency; the other is the exponential trend in AI model performance. At Aionics, we combine these by first using high-performance computing resources to simulate quantum-level phenomena in battery materials, and then using those insights to train AI models to search through the entire corpus of known and hypothetical materials to find the proverbial needle in the haystack. With new advancements in generative AI including large language models, this process only becomes faster, easier, and more accurate.” Read more at our website here: https://lnkd.in/girXNy5u. Tip from 2016: Don't let biases, preconceived notions, and the rapid pace of technological advancement make you miss the innovation flair. A few years ago, I found myself in a quaint little cafe in Chinatown, NYC, sipping on a cup of mushroom shake (the legal one!). As I glanced around, I noticed an elderly gentleman intently playing "Go" on a nearby table. Intrigued, I approached him and asked if I could join. Quick reminder: On March 9, 2016, DeepMind's artificial intelligence program, AlphaGo, made history by defeating world champion Lee Sedol in the ancient board game of Go, challenging traditional notions of machine intelligence. Back to the big apple. As the game progressed, we began discussing the nuances of Go and its deep-rooted significance in Chinese culture. The conversation naturally shifted to the groundbreaking match between Lee Sedol and AlphaGo. With a twinkle in his eye, the gentleman remarked, "It was the day when a machine taught us the beauty of unpredictability in a game we've played for centuries." Today, I came across a detailed report from 2016 on Industry 4.0 (link in first comment). The report extensively discussed various technologies such as the Internet of Things, Big Data, 3D printing, and robots. However, to my surprise, there was no mention of artificial intelligence. It was like reading about the ocean but missing out on the mention of water. In a world where AI, led by feats like AlphaGo, is reshaping our perceptions and interactions, it's intriguing to see it overlooked in discussions about the future. It's a reminder that sometimes, even in the most comprehensive reports, we might miss out on elements that are silently revolutionizing the world. Photo credit: ShiftDelete.Net

"AI—like electricity—is a general-purpose technology. Many innovations, such as a medical treatment, space rocket, or battery design, are fit for one purpose. In contrast, AI is useful for generating art, serving web pages that are relevant to a search query, optimizing shipping routes to save fuel, helping cars avoid collisions, and much more." A fascinating read in the MIT Technology Review on 'How to be an innovator' by Andrew Ng! Link: https://lnkd.in/ev3Ew4Vw

In #manufacturing, defects can mean the difference between a product that is in perfect condition and one that is not. Defect detection can be difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. With the help of #cameras and artificial intelligence, however, manufacturers can detect defects much more quickly and efficiently. First, image data is collected from various points on the production line. This data is then processed by machine learning algorithms to identify potential defects. If there are any abnormalities detected, the process will redirect products to the correct location for correction. By using cameras and #AI together, #manufacturers can eliminate many of the problems that typically occur during defect detection. #technology #tech #ML #ArtificialIntelligence #innovation #innovative #idea #startup
