Reminder to register for Google Girl Hackathon | Applications close on April 05, 2024 Girl Hackathon is a program for women in computer science and allied courses across India designed to help women in the engineering campus space showcase their coding skills and help create solutions for real-time themed technical challenges.  Participants will have a chance to win cash prizes and Google Branded Merchandise. Eligibility Criteria: 1. Students would be eligible to apply if they are from Bachelors, Masters or Integrated Dual Degree in Engineering and related courses within computer science and allied branches only. 2. Students from the following graduating batches can enter the hackathon [2025, 2026, 2027, 2028]. 3. Students must be enrolled in an engineering college in India and must be studying in the year as submitted/stated during registration 4. Students must belong to a circuit majority course 5. Students may only register as an individual 6. Students must be Indian nationals. Foreign national students are not allowed to participate in this hackathon 7. This past weekend, I had the privilege of participating in the Boston University Tech For Change Civic Tech Hackathon as a mentor and a judge. It was vibrant where teams tackled challenges across sustainable growth, healthcare, and increasing election engagement. I was genuinely impressed by the diversity and creativity of the solutions proposed, not just by the winning team but by all participants. Their ideas are worth exploring for anyone interested in the intersection of technology and societal betterment. Please do check out the projects at https://lnkd.in/eSisjiYc It was a refreshing experience to be on the other side of the table mentoring teams and as a judge. I felt the most alive in a very long time jumping around to help teams, fixing bugs, putting out fires(the metaphorical kind, thankfully), and it was an exciting environment on the whole. It was a reminder of the times at hackathons/contests, the long hours I put in to ideation and making the tech work. I also saw the reflection of my own journey from when I wanted to put AI/ML into everything vs my measured take on the need for ML in any application. One aspect of the hackathon I found particularly commendable was the decision to have multiple judges evaluate each team. This approach, while less efficient, significantly mitigates individual bias, ensuring a fairer assessment of each project. I owe my attendance to Alden Jackson, whose recommendation opened the door to this enriching experience. It was a reminder of the power of community and collaboration in driving change. 🚀 What an incredible experience! Sujith Kumaravel and I just wrapped up organizing the ConCordia CS Hackathon, and we're blown away by the creativity and innovation that unfolded. 🙌 With 65 amazing participants on board, we aimed to create a platform that encourages developers of all levels to collaborate and build extendable apps and web apps that could benefit the wider developer community. After participating in several hackathons ourselves, it was rewarding to see the impact this event had on fostering teamwork and innovation.
