Let's talk about scaling your software 🛫 Scaling software is a critical aspect of software development, especially in the context of growing user demands and increasing data volumes. Software scaling involves making your application capable of handling higher workloads and maintaining performance as your user base or data load increases. Here are some key aspects to consider when scaling your software: Horizontal Scaling vs. Vertical Scaling: Horizontal Scaling: This involves adding more machines or instances to your application to distribute the workload. It's often achieved through techniques like load balancing. It's more cost-effective and flexible. Imagine an e-commerce website that uses load balancers to distribute user requests across multiple servers. As more users visit the site, you add new server instances to handle the increased traffic. Vertical Scaling: This means upgrading your existing server or instance with more resources (CPU, RAM). It has limitations and can be more expensive but is simpler to implement. Imagine small web application starts experiencing performance issues as it grows. To address this, the development team upgrades the server by adding more CPU and RAM to accommodate the increased workload. Using Slack? You probably didn't know about Slack's Workflow Builder. With the builder, you can create automation processes based on triggers such as 'When a person joins a channel' or 'On a schedule,' among others. You can then define a set of actions to be performed, such as sending a message, collecting information in a form, creating a channel, or even integrating one of your favorite tools from a long list of available integrations. You can start from scratch or select from pre-made templates. All of this can be done without writing a single line of code. Try it yourself: https://lnkd.in/dvtZBxSA

FAQ: I just got a message that my certs for SSO are expiring. What do I do? SAML certificates, used by Split in our integration with SSO providers, expire after a set period. For example, by default Azure AD generates a self-signed certificate that is valid for three years. The certificates are entered as part of the Identity provider (IdP) metadata when you set up SAML in Split. Typically, an administrator will be informed of an Identity Provider certificate expiring 2 - 4 weeks before the expiration date. At that time, the new certificate on the Identity Provider system is created and can be updated in Split. It’s important that your configuration contains only the new certificate. When replacing the certificate in Split, it’s recommended that you temporarily disable SAML strict mode so you can log in using user and password in case anything goes wrong. Here are the recommended steps: 1. Disable SAML strict mode in Split, if currently enabled 2. Update the certificate in your IdP 3. Update the IdP metadata in the Split SAML configuration, removing the old certificate and adding the new certificate 4. Test and validate SSO is working 5. Re-enable SAML strict mode in Split (if previously enabled) Always helpful, always unvarnished. Want more tips like this?
