Why do Governments lack any degree of “Systems thinking”. On the radio this morning there was a piece on wind turbines and how we can build as many as we can but until we have the infrastructure to carry the electric it is a waste of time. So big announcement on wind farms, but very little on the infrastructure needed to get the power to the user. Think customer/user and work back from there not from the other end. Begin with the end in mind. You could be seeing thousands of wind turbines churning away and all the power disappearing. Maybe a strategy that says no wind power unless the distribution to the end user is in place??

We usually see and observe Wind turbines structure above grade level where we drive by wind farms. We rarely see the structure below the grade level. The video footage clip below shows the amazing foundation structure below the grade level. The foundation consists of a large spread footing and a network of steel reinforcement bars (rebar) to provide the necessary strength and rigidity. Proper reinforcement is essential to withstand the dynamic loads generated by the wind turbine, including the forces from wind, the weight of the turbine, and the operational vibrations.

How many revalutions / years before this is environmentally nutral With all that steel and concrete not to mention the resources needed to build and ship the turbine and connections to the grid. Some one should be able to calculate that in a life cycle evaluation before one of these returns to land fill.
