Engine preservation is a highly critical task. Wrong application or even no application of preservation can lead to hazardous engine failures: ❌ Bearing failures due to corrosion ❌ Inability to control thrust ❌ Tailpipe fire Therefore an operator has to manage every engine individually to which preservation level it is applicable. Even important is to monitor the individual preservation expiry date. In such case the operator has to decide either to return the engine into service or to renew the engine preservation. A turbofan or fanjet is a type of air breathing jet engine widely used in aviation. The term "turbofan" is a reference to the combination of previous generation turbojet engine technology and the additional fan stage. It consists of a gas turbine engine that derives mechanical power from combustion, and a ducted fan that uses mechanical power from the gas turbine to force air backward. Thus, whereas all of the air taken in by a turbojet passes through the combustion chamber and turbine, a portion of that air in a turbofan bypasses these elements. Thus a turbofan can be thought of as a turbojet used to drive a ducted fan, both of which contribute to thrust.
