On June 19 and 20, the PIAE - International Congress on Plastics in Automotive Engineering, known as the most important leading congress for plastics in cars, took place in Mannheim, Germany. On June 20, Dr.-Ing. Felix Behnisch and Michael Wilhelm from the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT spoke on the topic “Cost-effective and recyclable: Functionalized aPA6 profiles in injection molding". The spirit of resource-efficient and recyclable concepts for the automotive industry was inspiring and fits perfectly with the solutions of Röchling Automotive - We drive sustainable mobility! #Plastics #Engineering #Lightweight

We’re celebrating National Manufacturing Day! Today, we celebrate all manufacturing, but especially the industry that is near and dear to our hearts – the plastics industry! It’s also a wonderful opportunity to recognize the people who work in manufacturing day in and day out, as well the history of the industry that has paved the way for where we are today. The plastics industry is relatively young with the first plastic invention taking place in Berlin, Germany in 1839 when an apothecary discovered polystyrene (which is still used today for model cars and airplanes and foam packaging and insulation!). 50 years later, Eastman Kodak moved the industry forward when they received a patent for celluloid film. Then, in the 1950’s Hans Reifenhäuser and his brother Fritz developed one of the most important machine manufacturing companies of the global plastics industry. Today, the name Reifenhäuser is synonymous with high-quality plastics extrusion equipment. We are proud to have both Hans and his son, Ulrich Reifenhäuser, as members of the Plastics Hall of Fame, classes of 2014 and 2021. This rich history has led to today’s plastics industry – a vital and relevant industry that employs more than six million people worldwide today. Last year’s global plastics market was $609 billion and is continuing to grow! Of course, that’s not surprising knowing how important plastics are today for all of us to live a safe, healthy and productive life. #nationalmanufacturingday #manufacturing #plasticsmanufacturing #nationalmanufacturingmonth

BP&R April/May 2024 issue is OUT NOW! 👀 Hear from our editor Rebekah Jordan who challenges the 'bigger is better' notion and whether it could be smarter for companies to target smaller markets for a more refined strategy. Our cover story this month features the smiling faces of Graeme Herlihy and Wayne Ball at ENGEL (UK) Ltd as the company divulges its strategy to redefine success in plastics #manufacturing. Our #automotive feature hosts SKZ – Das Kunststoff-Zentrum explores how #simulation technology can help manufacturers get automotive parts right the first time around. Industry news looks at TriSolve's company pillars of #Sustainability, Integrity and Accountability, as well as FRX Innovations, Inc. - FRX Polymers, Inc.'s benefits from the EU announcement last Feb. Elsewhere, Bole Machinery UK makes an announcement, Borche Machinery UK drives energy-efficient moulding, and BOY Machines, Inc. doubles up at PlastpolFair. #Meettheexperts makes a return in this issue as we learn more about Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, Summit Systems Ltd, and Matrix Plastics Ltd - thanks to Dave Raine, Meggie (Jordan) Byrd, and Richard Hoare. In #composites, we gathered insights from Kim Sjödahl at Exel Composites who explores the initiatives shaping the future of composite #recycling. Not to forget our regular columns from David Raine on the Irish Polymer Conference, Philip Law on BPF's alliance with CHINAPLAS 2024 and Mike Boswell FIMMM (aka Polymerman) on using natural gas as a feedstock for polyolefins. Finally, an exclusive interview with Hi-Tech Automation Ltd shares insight into the company's recipe for success in maintaining local support before branching out globally.
