Should a game developers be strictly focused on their current niche or should they search for wider expertise? White Nights has posted the recordings from WN Istanbul and I am happy to share the recording of my talk on the topic of porting AA games from PC to consoles based on the experience of Phoenix Point: Behemoth Edition project: https://lnkd.in/dk2Aa7uu I had some concerns if it was the right place to hold such a talk, as the biggest part of the conference’s participants were mobile developers, marketing agencies and very small indies, and my topic was mostly out of the scope of their business niche. But Rami Ismail who was present in the audience supported me and told me that he considered it important and interesting for game developers to look outside their current focus and be aware and be prepared for challenges and projects that they may face in future: “You talk may raise indie dev’s interest in consoles and attract them to new markets…”. What do you think guys? Should a game developer be strictly focused on his current niche to become successful in it? so, I have a massive interrogation looking at the ventilation of Palworld steam owners. 8 millions copies sold in 6 days. ok, impressive yet credible.It is believable /achievable looking at the sales of previous blockbusters. now, let's look at the breakdown of sales per country on steam. A bit over 33% seems to come from China. that is a 2.64 million copies in this market. You know, China the country that leads sales of game on mobile.... How to explain this situation? I have two hypotheses: 1) Pokemon is huge in china, and with such overlap between Pal and Pokemon, Palworld is like a great alternative on PC, for a wider population who does not have pokemon on console. 2) This is not a free to play... in opposition to the main gaming market in China: mobile free to play games... one could question if those sales are not the result of players being offer a premium game with access to a wide variety of content. if you have other please let me know, I am really curious and interested to read your perspective.
