When you speak up for Black voices, make sure you're speaking up for Black female voices Black neurodivergent voices, Black trans voices, Black disabled voices, Black queer/gay voices, and the list goes on. ALL BLACK VOICES. Make sure your advocacy is intersectional and accounts for all aspects of the Black experience. The more identities a person has, the more marginalized they become. Black people are multifaceted. We are not a monolith. #DEI #blackhistorymonth #BHM #diversityequityandinclusion #accessibility

Excellence is not the measure of what is to be remembered as part of Black queer & trans contributions to 2SLGBTQIA+ history. Our fight against archival erasure and to share intersectional histories of Black 2SLGBTQIA+ activism and movement work is the measure of what is remembered as part of Black 2SLGBTQIA+ history. As Syrus Marcus Ware reminds us: “we need to consider what we want to remember and how we want to remember it, building an archive of our movements going forward to ensure that intergenerational memory can inform our activism, community building, and organizing.” Let’s not excel, to be remembered. Rather, work on creating spaces for sharing Black 2SLGBTQIA+ history and foster intergenerational memory that informs our work, organizing, and lives. This Black History Month we’ve focused on defining Black excellence in our own terms by mobilizing Black feminist principles for Black 2SLGBTQIA+ liberation — Black feminist principles which inform how we create Black queer and trans joy in our lives, navigate oppression, and imagine and build queer and trans futures. Today for Black History Month, we invite you to: ✅ Read Syrus Marcus Ware’s article “All Power to All People? Black LGBTTI2QQ Activism, Remembrance, and Archiving in Toronto'': https://lnkd.in/eBkhXQuM ✅ Book your workshops on queer Canadian history so that you and the youth you work with can learn about the tools for survival queer and trans folks have developed through time: https://lnkd.in/eHdb2Mpt #BHM2024 #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackFeminism #QueerRights #TransRights #2SLGBTQIAYouth #2ELSGBTQIA #Jeunes #QTBIPOC

Committed to increasing participation and representation of Black and Brown women, and girls with disabilites in the mass media.
365 days a year, The DIvas With Disabilities Project honors the contributions of African Americans to the United States. In line with this year’s theme of Black Americans and The Arts that celebrates the profound evolving impact of Black artistry on our culture, national identity, and social movements that have spanned worldwide, we advocate for the celebration of #DisabilityCulture, inclusion of Black people living with disabilities in the #Film industry and encourage Black women with disabilities to show up unapologetically, nurture their talents, and pursue their purpose. #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM #AfricanAmericanHistory #BlackVoices #CelebrateBlackHistory #AfricanAmericanHistoryMonth #Inclusion #BlackAmericans #Representation #BlackHistoryMonth2024 #BlackDisabledWomen Image Description: A white background graphic with The Divas With Disabilities Logo to the top left, and text: We honor the generations of African Americans who battled Adversity and significantly impacted African American History! The words African and Adversity are highlighted in red. To the right are horizontal red, yellow, and green backgrounds with the words Black History Month respectively.

“Survival is a promise. A covenant between my ancestors, my living communities and this body that is 100% composed of the love that connects them,” writes Alexis Pauline Gumbs in an essay reflecting on Audre Lorde’s life and the documentary “Audre Lorde: The Berlin Years.” What we learn from Gumbs’ rethinking of survival as a promise is that we only survive and thrive by collectively setting our own standards. Our survival is not based on our relationship to the institutions that see us excel. Rather, our survival is linked to the relationships we have with ourselves, our communities, and those that have come before us. Our survival is a promise we make to ourselves to succeed on our own terms. This Black History Month, we are flipping the script on Black excellence to learn from the lives of Black queer and trans thinkers. We are spotlighting Black queer and transgender feminist figures to learn from what motivates them, what nourishes them and their work, and how they define Black excellence on their own terms. This week for Black History Month, we invite you to : ✅ Read Alexis Pauline Gumbs essay: “The Shape of My Impact” on The Feminist Wire: https://lnkd.in/euJteq2v ✅ Book your workshops on Intersectionality & Diversity to create a space for youth to learn more about their identities and their positionality in society and allow them to navigate the world more effectively: https://lnkd.in/eHdb2Mpt [Image description: In this text post we share a Black feminist principle for Black 2SLGBTQIA+ liberation. The principle is a quote from Alexis Pauline Gumbs that says: "Survival is a promise." On Black Lives Matter Day, we stand in solidarity with a movement that has awakened the conscience of a nation and the world. Today is a day of reflection, action, and commitment to the ongoing struggle for racial justice and equality. It's a day to honor those we've lost and to amplify the voices that continue to fight for change. This movement is a rallying cry that Black lives do, indeed, matter and a reminder that our work is far from over. Let's continue to push for systemic change, uplift Black communities, and work towards a future where equality isn't just a dream, but a reality. ✊🏾🖤 #LeadingWhileMuslim #DEI #BlackLivesMatterDay #Justice #Equality #StandTogether

On Juneteenth, TikTok banned our account advocating for racial inclusiveness and promoting Black people in STEM. TikTok, please explain. On our account, we had asked the R-RIGHTS Team: When is the last time you experienced Black joy in STEM? What did it look like? Who else was present? How can that experience be reproduced? Leave a comment below with your experience with #BlackJoy!

Black History Month is Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion! Can you truly celebrate Black History Month while concurrently opposing DEI initiatives? Navigating workplace complexities for Black individuals becomes even more challenging amid ongoing national attacks on DEI. If applauding the dismantling of Affirmative Action, cutting program funding, undermining DEI efforts, and neglecting equitable opportunities is deemed celebration, it prompts reflections on genuine commitment versus performative virtue-signaling during BHM. How will you honor BHM? #BlackHistoryMonth #DEI #diversityandinclusion #inclusion #equity #diversityequityinclusion #inclusionmatters #equality #publishing #speaking #socialjustice

Discrimination and stigma, both enacted and internal (e.g., internalized, perceived, or anticipated) based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression, persist, causing adverse health outcomes. Black gay men face unique challenges due to societal expectations of masculinity and cultural stigmas, leading to difficulty expressing emotions and a lack of access to support networks. Belonging and finding a tribe can empower individuals in ways beyond measure. For Black gay men, having a supportive group of people to rely on during difficult times can provide a much-needed sense of acceptance and understanding, helping them navigate the world with confidence and purpose. By fostering a sense of community and building for belonging, we can help empower Black gay men to live their lives fully and authentically.
