As we close out #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, Melissa Leneis, our Chief Human Resources Officer, reflects on the importance of cultivating environments that foster good mental health: “In my role as CHRO at Quaker Houghton, I am deeply committed to championing mental health awareness and support within our organization. This includes investing to enhance our Global EAP offerings and make the Calm app available to our employees. We also encourage colleagues to prioritize self-care and take advantage of support systems, such as Virgin Pulse, our global well-being partner, and our volunteerism approach, for a healthy balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being. Finally, our Colleague Resource Groups (CRGs) tap into the power of community to create spaces for meaningful dialogue and support. Let's continue to cultivate a culture of compassion, empathy, and empowerment. Fostering good mental health is not just a priority - it's our responsibility.”

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're highlighting the critical link between mental health and safety in the workplace. When employees feel supported mentally and emotionally, they are more alert, engaged, and less prone to accidents. By incorporating mental health into our safety programs, we're not just complying with standards—we're building a resilient, attentive, and safer workforce. Let's prioritize mental well-being as a key component of our safety culture, creating a healthier environment for everyone. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Do you Embrace Your Roots and Mind Your Mental Well-being? (A Staffordshire Day Tribute) This May, as we celebrate Staffordshire Day and Mental Health Awareness Month, let's reflect on how our roots and surroundings influence not only our personal well-being but also our creative expressions. Staffordshire isn't just a place; it's a palette of inspiration from its historic landscapes to the homely warmth of oatcake shops that dot our beloved county. These elements are not just backdrop; they are integral to our narrative. 💚 In design and marketing, authenticity resonates. Infusing our work with genuine love for our origins like the affection I have for Staffordshire oatcakes helps create more meaningful and engaging content. 🧠 Similarly, prioritising mental health isn't just good ethics it's good business. Awareness and consideration of mental well-being drive more inclusive, creative, and productive professional environments. What We Can Do: Incorporate Local Love: Let's bring the essence of our hometowns into our brands. It enriches our story and connects deeply with our audience. Advocate for Mental Health: Integrate support and awareness into our business practices and communications. It's crucial for building trust and fostering a supportive community. 🤔 How do you weave your heritage into your professional narrative? What steps are you taking to support mental health in your workspace? #StaffordshireDay #MentalHealthAwareness #CreativeMarketing #BrandAuthenticity #DesignInspiration

Feeling refreshed and proud to know that I work for a company that genuinely promotes mental health and provides resources for employees to have their mental health needs met. In the spirit of Mental Health Awareness month, I partnered with our Employee health services occupational nurse to host a mental health presentation for my department today. And I am so glad. Our nurse shared so much valuable insight about mental health along with tips and resources available to all State Farm employees. As I think about all I learned today, my biggest takeaway is that we all play a role in promoting a working environment that promotes mental health. We spend most of our days working and it is important that we are in an environment that is psychologically safe. Many believe that it is our leader’s responsibility to create a safe space, BUT really it is all our responsibility, no matter the role. Some ways you can do that include: 1. Encourage open communication on your team 2. Practice Empathy 3. Be an Active Listener 4. Respect and Embrace Diversity 5. Support your colleagues 6. Build Trust Together we can make a positive difference in the lives of our colleagues and create a healthier work environment. 💫🧠❤️ #ourstatefarm

As we enter into Mental Health Awareness Month this May, let's discuss the important role employers play in supporting employees with mental health conditions. 🔍 What You Need to Know: Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, it's a legal requirement to provide "reasonable accommodations" for employees with mental health conditions. These are essential for enabling all employees to perform their best. Reasonable accommodations can include: 🕒 Flexible work schedules 📝 Modifications to workplace policies 👥 Adjustments in management methods 💻 Provision of specific equipment or software 🔁 Reassignment of marginal job functions Remember, the goal is to ensure everyone can contribute their best without the company facing undue hardships. If you're unsure about identifying reasonable accommodations or their implementation, remember that each situation is unique and merits a careful, thoughtful approach. For advice or questions, don't hesitate to reach out—we're here to guide you in fostering a more inclusive and supportive workplace.
