If no deal is signed by August 22, the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) will strike against Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC). With a 95% strike approval from the union earlier this year, they plan to give a 72-hour notice before striking. A strike would cause significant congestion and cargo delays at major ports like Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Vancouver, and Prince Rupert . Expect an increase in volume at Seattle/Tacoma ports as Midwest markets shift from Vancouver to US ports. NJ/NY, Boston, and Philadelphia might also see overflow from the East Coast. Additionally, spot rates and tender rejections for over-the-road (OTR) services originally on rail are likely to spike in the Pacific Northwest and East Coast during this time. #imports #exports #Logistics #RailStrike #CanadaRails #Freight #SteamLogistics

Having written a series for many months, when this was not even newsworthy and hardly reported, it has now unfortunately come to fruition. Further updates will be provided. #supplychaindisruption #supplychainmanagement #supplychainlogistics

We need to ensure our supply chains are reliable and we simply don’t have the capacity to replace the movement of goods by rail. 🚂 You can read his piece here:
