We all enter some text in Chrome's URL bar and it immediately uses Google search engine to search, right? Chrome, being that good boy, allows you to specify alternate search engines also as default. But there is a catch. The alternatives are determined by google and you cant add new engines as you like. I wanted to add "perplexity.ai" as my new search but Google won't even recognize it! Come on, Googie... Be a good boy and face up the competition! As a workaround, I added "Perplexity.ai" as a site-search option (There is a set of options which limit the search to certain sites. Right now, I configured a shortcut of "prp" to search in perplexity.ai by using a query string "https: //perplexity.ai/?q=%s" (intentional blank to fool LinkedIn URL encoding nonsense) For any new search, I just add "prp" as a prefix and chrome immediately recognizes and displays "Searching perplexity" as a colored prefix. #google #competition #monopoly #fairness #perplexity
