🚢Maersk continues its fleet renewal program with planned orders and charter contracts of 800,000 TEU. The vessels come in different sizes offering great network flexibility. To support our commitment to decarbonisation, all vessels will be dual-fuel and able to operate on low emissions fuel. “Our fleet renewal program is fundamental to maintaining competitive edge in our ocean business, and it is a cornerstone in decarbonising our operations. As the shipyard orderbooks have been filling up quickly and lead time for vessel deliveries have increased significantly, we decided to place orders and charter contracts of 800,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) dual-fuel vessels, which ensures a steady flow of needed capacity for our network for the years 2026-2030 while building a competitive toolkit,” says Rabab Boulos, Chief Operating Officer at Maersk. The question being asked: under their new Gemini Cooperation agreement, will Hapag-Lloyd AG and A.P. Moller - Maersk operate vessel slot-sharing similar to what we've seen with the alliances? , I am thinking this new cooperation agreement will function differently and each carrier will operate more independently. If so, I like it – I feel operations are more responsive to shippers needs if individual carriers are sailing their own ships, making their own schedules and routes, without having to consult with their competitors in the alliance.
