Rajamundry - Hyderabad- Ahmedabad: *A Lesson in Consideration* Last week, I was on my way back to Ahmedabad after a business tour, flying from Rajamundry to Hyderabad, and then to Ahmedabad. At Hyderabad, a family of six boarded the flight. Likely due to a last-minute booking, they were all assigned separate seats, which deprived them of the joy of sitting together during the short 1.5-hour journey. Determined to sit together, the family mobilized the entire in-flight crew, insisting on being seated closer to each other. They persistently requested other passengers to exchange seats, causing significant inconvenience to their fellow travelers. In the narrow aisle, the family shuffled back and forth, swapping seats and shifting luggage, delaying the completion of boarding. The curious passengers who were still trying to reach their seats grew increasingly irritated, with some losing their patience. Yet, the family, oblivious to the disruption they were causing, single-mindedly pursued their goal of sitting together for the short journey. Observing the commotion, I assisted them in stowing their bags in the overhead compartments, hoping to expedite the boarding process. Why such a fuss for a journey that was soon to end? This situation, though not uncommon, made me reflect on the broader implications of our actions. How much inconvenience do we cause others in this brief life, which, in the grand scheme of things, passes in the blink of an eye? In our pursuit of temporary joy and comfort—fleeting as it may be—we often disregard the discomfort we inflict on those around us. A little adjustment and forbearance can make life's journey more pleasant for ourselves and others. What value does joy have if it is achieved at the expense of others' discomfort? Adopting a more accommodating attitude and learning to let go can significantly contribute to ensuring peace for ourselves and those around us. -Chirag Shah 22.05.24

#Aswinivaishnaw # Indian railways ceo Just sharing my experience of travelling in Purushottam Express (12802) from NDLS to Puri starting 11th Jan23 - Train started 1Hr 30 Mins late. We all got stranded at the platform for such long time in severe cold with no facility for seating. - The experience at the Ist Floor Paid AC waiting Hall was equally bad. The place was totally unkempt. More seats occupied by the luggage’s than travellers. Over packed with people. Hard to move through the crowd. - At 12 noon on 12th Jan(+1day) the train was running 9 hrs late and in 12 hrs since it left Delhi it has just covered 345 kms! An average speed of less than 30 km/hr. - Unable to understand when shall we reach final destination Puri for which we need to travel another 1500km + - Just for us to know the phenomenon of fog is not that bad at all for the train not to be able to pick up reasonable speed. - Total failure of IR Management team and the Operations team. It would have been better if they had the honest intention to cancel this train for 11th. At the least we would have got our money returned and we could have opted for a air travel instead. - Extereme poor display of management grit and maturity on the part of railways.

Spending quality time with the customers, interactions, having an open mind to listen are key pillars to improve the self. If you have recently traveled by Vande Bharat, I would like to know about your experience... Traveling on the Vande Bharat Express today for the second time (returning from Varanasi). Unfortunately, my experience has been significantly lesser than stellar. The toilets were not in the best condition. The air conditioning was uncomfortably cold. The service from the staff was quite slow. I paid a premium for this journey, hoping for a top-notch experience, but the standards clearly fall short. I recently went to Shirdi with my parents on the famous Vande Bharat Express and I don't think I've had a better Indian railway experience. The hospitality, the cleanliness and overall comfort justify the price. For the longest time, I used to think the Vande Bharat trains were all about speed and were a vanity project made to distract the urban public from the poor condition of our general Indian coaches. Now I've changed my opinion, I think the Vande Bharat is not about the speed and their competition is not other trains. Vande Bharat is the Indian railway's attempt to compete with short-haul domestic air travel and they are doing a pretty good job at it. Vande Bharat trains run on medium-length routes with travel time between 5-8 hrs. They usually run between metropolitan centres competing with the flights between the 2 cities. Let's take an example if I want to go from Mumbai to Goa I can take a flight that takes around 1 and half hours on top of which I will need to reach the airport 2 hrs early go through security and wait if the flight is delayed and all of this costs around 2000- 2500 rupees excluding catering, on the other hand, I may take the Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat Express which departs from Mumbai CSMT at 5 30 pm and reaches Goa by 1 pm, with it a ticket cost of 1800 rupees including catering. Over here Vande Bharat comes out as a great alternative especially looking at the current condition of the Indian airline industry where 3-4 hrs delays are very common in a busy airport such as Mumbai (CSMIA). This begs the question, can Indan Railway maintain this service well and compete effectively and can we see a future where the railways become a lucrative option for premium, fast short and medium-haul transport? Can we see a situation like the one in the European nations where high-speed railway networks are giving tough competition to their regional airline market? only time will tell.
