With age, many transtibial prosthetic users experience atrophy of the above-knee muscles. With such evolutions, off the shelf liners can become problematic. Indeed atrophied thigh segments are often thinner than the knee, and finding a liner which provides adequate fit and compressions all along the limb is not easy. Liners can be too compressive on the below-knee segment or the knee, or otherwise loos on the thigh which can create a feeling of loss of suspension. Custom liners can be a great alternative in such cases, to provide users with safe and adequate compressions. With Your® Liner, you can also customise the local thickness. For such cases, extra pads can be added just above the femoral condyles. This provides a bit more supracondylar volume, which can help to "open up" the ML socket edges, therefore facilitating socket entry. Traditionally, artificial limb prosthetics have been attached with straps and similar devices. However, these presented a problem for users: they could be uncomfortable and impractical at times. We were contacted by a large prosthetics manufacturer who was looking to work on an alternative to the issues of unwieldy artificial limbs. Their solution: a new generation of suction-based prosthetics that are more comfortable and mobile. Here was their dilemma: they needed a custom-made mini diaphragm pump that would fulfill all their requirements. Fortunately, we were up to the task. We built the 2000 Series diaphragm pump from scratch as the answer to their needs.
