Helping clients make better choices with residential & commercial utility bills & telecoms. I’m also a travel agent with my own business, established 1983, helping leisure & corporate customers with worldwide travel.
Are you a wine conisseur, or someone who simply enjoys wine from different countries? After my visit to the Embassy of the Czech Republic, London last night, I was introduced to some fabulous local wines from Czechia 🇨🇿, and they really were very pleasant. Unbeknown to me the local vineyards produce a number of red, white, rosé and sparkling wines, of which you rarely see in the U.K. I can arrange a bespoke wine tour of either the Bohemian or Moravian wine regions, or if time permits, both. Bohemia Wine Region At the present time the greatest vineyard area is found around the towns of Mělník, Litoměřice and Most. The territory of this region planted with vines is not continuous but rather comprises individual suitable localities lying on protected southern slopes in lower altitudes, the majority spreading around the valleys of the four great Bohemian rivers: Vltava, Elbe, Berounka and Ohře. The greater changeability of the weather conditions in particular vintages has traditionally led Bohemia's winemakers to adopt a trend of long-term cellaring in barrels. Moravia wine region The Moravia wine region stretches from the southernmost point of the Morava (March) river up as far as the area lying to the west of Brno. Altogether you will find here almost 96% of the total of registered vineyards in the Czech Republic. Please get in touch with me to discuss your requirements, as a bespoke tour can be arranged for you. As an FYI, it’s around a two hour train journey between Prague and Brno. Whilst there are nonstop flights to Prague from the UK, only Ryanair fly to Brno from London Stansted. It is therefore possible to fly into Prague and out of Vienna (the Austrian 🇦🇹 capital is a train ride away from Brno), maybe spending a couple of days there, or fly back from Brno, but to Stansted. ☎️ 020 8891 3169 📧 paul@wottravel.co.uk #visitczechia #travelgossip #czechia #czechrepublic #winelover #winetasting #winetours

Consumer preferences in the South African wine & tourism industry are shifting 📈 1. Consumers are increasingly preferring local & authentic experiences. They are gravitating towards smaller, family-owned wineries that offer experiences of local culture rather than over-commercialised wineries with little to no intimacy. 🍇 2. Consumers are also leaning more towards farm-to-fork dining - they want wholesome experiences 🧑🌾 3. Internationally, consumers are choosing white wine over red more and more 🍷 (even more reason for the white wine emoji!) Explore the authentic and local wineries that the Winelands have to offer with our intimate Wine Safari tours at Wines of Paarl. It’s like a game safari, but wine.🍷

Melbourne: A Lesser Known Wine Lover's Paradise The idea of lush vineyards and wine regions evokes in mind the sun-drenched hills of Tuscany and serene Bordeaux, or the elite wineries of the Napa Valley. Few are aware of Melbourne’s reputation as a wine lover's paradise. Here are some compelling reasons why Melbourne is a significant pitstop for wine lovers. Proximity to world-class wine regions: The city is surrounded by renowned wine-producing regions, such as the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, and Macedon Ranges. This proximity makes it easy to visit multiple wineries and vineyards in a short period. Diverse wine styles: Melbourne's wine regions produce a wide variety of wine styles, from classic Australian varieties like Shiraz and Chardonnay to more experimental blends. This diversity ensures there's something to suit every palate. Sophisticated wine culture: Melbourne has a sophisticated wine culture, with numerous wine bars, restaurants, and speciality shops dedicated to showcasing the best of Australian wines. Wine festivals and events: Throughout the year, Melbourne hosts various wine festivals and events, providing opportunities to sample new wines, learn about winemaking techniques, and meet winemakers. Beautiful scenery: The wine regions surrounding Melbourne offer stunning scenery, including rolling hills, vineyards, and charming towns. This makes wine tasting a delightful sensory experience. These factors combined make Melbourne an ideal destination for wine enthusiasts seeking a memorable and sophisticated wine-tasting experience. For those who have never gone wine tasting before, keep these pointers in mind to make the most of your wine-tasting experience. -- Start with lighter wines: Begin with white wines or sparkling wines before moving on to red wines. -- Swirl the wine: This aerates the wine and releases its aromas. -- Take a deep breath: Inhale the wine's aroma before taking a sip. --- Taste the wine: Pay attention to the flavours, tannins, acidity, and sweetness. -- Spit or swallow: If you're tasting multiple wines, it's a good idea to spit most of the wine out to avoid getting too intoxicated. We live in a time when many of the foundation stones, and pillars of our culture and beliefs seem to have been torn away. Trust in governments, the police, the press, and the medical profession seems to be a distant memory. For lovers of Bordeaux and its wines it is comforting that the landmark 1855 classification of the wines of the Médoc and Sauternes is still in place. And, on the whole, it is as valid today as it has ever been. Of course in the (nearly) 170 years since the classification, there have been many changes to the listed châteaux, but only one major and one minor change to the list. The Phylloxera louse invaded the vineyards, properties have changed hands, have expanded or contracted (any increase in the land under vine must always be within the appellation), and yields today are generally higher. At times some of the châteaux went off form, and even fell into disrepair, but the investment in the last couple of decade has been phenomenal. There are many books written about Bordeaux and its wines, all of which discuss, to a greater or lesser extent, the properties listed in the famous 1855 Classification. However, whilst each work takes an individual approach, to date there has not been a book that looks at the châteaux that considers how they cater for the wine tourist. This is remedied in this great new publication: 'Bordeaux 1855: A Guide to the Grands Crus Classés', published by Flammarion. Price: £22 https://lnkd.in/eipykjX4
