Solutions for Common Problems in LSZH/HFFR Cable Processing 🌟Processing Challenges LSZH/HFFR flame retardant materials are typically heavily loaded with additives to achieve the desired flame retardant properties. This high additive content can lead to several processing issues, including: 🔹Increased Extruder Torque: The high filler content in LSZH/HFFR materials increases the torque required to process the material, leading to higher energy consumption and wear on equipment. 🔹Die Drool and Melt Fracture: The heavy loading of flame retardants can cause die drool and melt fracture during extrusion, resulting in poor surface quality and increased waste. 🔹Poor Dispersion: Achieving uniform dispersion of flame retardants and other additives is critical for consistent performance. However, the high filler content in LSZH/HFFR materials can make dispersion challenging. 💡Solutions to Overcome Challenges Incorporating Silicone Masterbatch, Silicone Masterbatch is an efficient processing additive. It has good compatibility with the plastic substrate, reducing melt viscosity and improving processability and compounding productivity. By enhancing flame retardant dispersion, it helps in reducing the coefficient of friction (COF), providing smooth surface finish properties, and improving scratch resistance.  The injection process in the production of carbon fibre After the pressing and winding process, we will now look at the injection process. This process is widely used for the production of high-precision and complex components made from fibre-reinforced plastics. In the injection process, the dry reinforcing material is first inserted into the mould. Impregnation with resin only takes place after the mould is closed by injecting or sucking the matrix (resin) into the mould. The injection moulding process is particularly effective for the production of complex components. It allows precise control over the resin flow rate and material placement, resulting in accurate and functional component geometries. Specifically, it will cover the fundamental principles of free radical chemistry as it centers around the use of 100% solids UV Cure Aromatic/Aliphatic Polyurethanes, Epoxy, Polyesters, Polyether oligomers and there use with monomeric acrylates in combination with specific photoinitiators. The course will look at the issues of surface inhibition on free radical chemistries and techniques to limit this problem. UV light sources will also be reviewed and will include the following: full spectrum UV light sources, UV-A light sources, fluorescent UV lights and UV-A LEDs. Techniques will also be described on how to ensure that equipment and light sources are evaluated for their optimum performance. The session will round out looking at some of the newest technologies that use water and high MW polymers that are the ‘green of the green coatings’ technologies.
