The National Chicken Council (have no fear, it’s not like they’re instrumental in lobbying and major subsidies….) estimates that 1.45 billion chicken wings will be eaten during the 2024 Super Bowl today.
That’s more than 165 million pounds of chicken wings, according to the NCC.
Many outlets are reporting that is 725,000,000 chickens murdered for this one single event.
However, it’s probably more accurately pinned around 362,500,000 considering each chicken wing is typically chopped up in to two pieces — four “wings” per body.
One is too many for an unnecessary taste pleasure preference considering this is the furthest thing from a survival scenario — much more akin to complete greed and gluttony.
Let alone closer to half a billion, for only a few short hours.
Admittedly, I used to love munching on murdered chicken body parts smothered in hot sauce.
Until one day I couldn’t justify being part of the supply and demand chain of cruelty.
Worldwide, estimates suggest more than 70 billion chickens are killed each year, not including chickens killed by the egg industry.
I wish I knew my ignorantly complicate actions sooner.
Chickens are extremely social and inquisitive animals.
They love the company of one another and often form close bonds with other animals, including humans.
They have eyes, a heart, and a brain — and they feel pain just like us.
Whether people like to play linguistic semantics or not, the fact is chickens are murdered.
They’re not processed or harvested like many animal agriculture greenwashing tactics try to spin.
They are all brutally slaughtered, butchered, and massacred — violent and bloody methods of killing.
Seriously, what the cluck?!
Pass the seitan chick’n wings please and thanks!
