EXCLUSIVE: When Mandy Moore first decided to pursue motherhood, she assumed she knew enough about the path ahead—until it took an unexpected detour. “I went into the whole experience pretty blind; pretty unfamiliar with how my body functions,” she says. When she eventually learned that she might have a condition that would make it impossible to conceive without surgery, Mandy found herself grappling with a reality that so many women face, yet find themselves unprepared for—simply because we’re never taught to entertain the possibility. “It’s just such an afterthought until you’re there,” she says. Two kids later (and as she prepares or the arrival of her third, a baby girl), we sat down with Mandy as she recounted the fertility journey that would ultimately lead her to women’s health advocacy—and the idea that it’s up to us to demand a better future for our daughters, where body literacy is the rule, not the exception. “I love being part of a company that engenders this sort of conversation, and [is] making it more the norm,” she says. “Making women more comfortable to talk about their bodies, talk about their journeys, and how similar we all are… and yet how different we all are.” Read the full story at the link.

On the heels of our $10 million Pledge to close the gender research gap and improve access to maternal care, our newest campaign invites women to Live in a Perelel Universe: where women's health is treated and funded equitably. With the help of actress and women’s health advocate Mandy Moore, we’re bringing sharp visibility to just how much women’s bodies have been under-researched and overlooked for decades—and we hope you’ll join us in advocating for meaningful change. And we have our work cut out for us: -The National Institutes of Health (NIH) currently allocates just 10.8% of its annual funding to the study of women’s health. -From 1977 to 1993, women of “childbearing potential” were omitted from clinical studies. It would take years for inclusion to start to improve. -Even now, common conditions like endometriosis and fibroids have significantly less funding behind them than less common, male-centered conditions. Through this campaign, we’re calling on Congress to allocate more NIH funding to women’s health ahead of the 2025 budget deadline on 9/30. From the very beginning, creating a world with more healthy, supported women has been absolutely core to Perelel's brand mission—and the fight for equitable care is something we can all agree on.
