Marketing Monday's Canadian Club & Dry - Over beer? Campaign In a competitive alcohol industry, the Canadian Club and Dry brand shifted it's marketing focus which would result in moving considerable market share within the industry. Instead of positioning the brand against other RTDs the aim was to take market share from beer which could provide a far larger source of volume. The ad challenged everyday Australian's to answer the question: Do I like beer? or do I just drink it because everyone else does? The tag line "Over beer?" quickly became well known in pubs all around the country fast becoming the number 1 alternative choice of what to order when you didn't want a beer. So was it a success? While the marketing campaign got everyone's attention, the profits for Canadian Club were sky high. In a case study by Efflie, they reported that the brand achieved "an incremental +$35M value sales uplift year-on-year, growing drinkers at 3-times the category, delivering an ROI of $3.12 in incremental profit for every marketing dollar spent." "Best of all; Canadian Club overtook Bundaberg Rum in value sales for the first time in history." Campaign takeaway: Moving away from your direct RTD rivals was a masterstroke for Canadian Club. Challenging the beer market instead of other whisky drinks but their brand at the front of the line for non beer alternatives. Very clever campaign and no doubt one of my all time favourties.
