We are thrilled to announce the new principal of Encanto Elementary, Ms. Kimberly Fernandez! Kimberly has 18 years experience in public education, with 16 as a teacher and the past 2 as a principal at the Tempe Learning Center of Student Choice High School, an alternative and credit recovery program for students. Kimberly holds 2 masters degrees (curriculum & instruction and educational leadership). Kimberly's classroom instruction came in grades 2-5 in the Union Elementary School District in the west valley, where she taught for 7 years. She then spent 3 years as an instructional coach and ELD reading specialist in Dysart Unified. The next step in her elementary educational journey was in 7 years as a K-5 reading and math specialist in Litchfield Elementary School District. Kimberly entered administration as a high school principal for the past two years. Kimberly has used her knowledge to contribute to school and district professional development, professional learning communities, curriculum mapping, and teacher training in explicit math and reading interventions. She has worked on a variety of school and district initiatives including new teacher mentors, peer evaluators, and as an RTI coordinator. She is trained in Cognitive Coaching and is a Trainer of Trainers for Teaching Reading Effectively. Kimberly has been honored as the Westside Impact Teacher of the Year. We are confident that she brings a big heart for young students and will be a nurturing, data-focused, and teacher-supportive leader for the Encanto campus.'
