Contamination, the size of an item, and a mix of material types in an item can all make something hard to recycle—and thus, more expensive to recycle. If your local recycling service can’t make a profit from recycling an item, they typically won’t accept it. That’s why you can only put specific things (like aluminum cans or glass jars) in your curbside recycling. TerraCycle is different. We can recycle the unrecyclable because we partner with brands and retailers who help fund the recycling process.
