Once upon a time, there was this great and mighty Master called Mr Adegbenro, who was working in a particular school some where in the South West region as a Government subject teacher. Mr Adegbenro was the type who doesn't attend to his class timely, he would have wasted half of the 45 minutes in the staffroom gisting or at times when he gets to the class, he would engage the students in other talks rather than teaching, he would remind the students how they would never amount to anything. He did that his regular teaching style for good thirty years. As a Public servant, he had served for good thirty years and was just left with five years to wrap up his service. Someday, it was briefing hour in his latest school when young Colonel approached the Principal that fateful morning he asked him for Mr Adegbenro because he said he had made his researches and now learned he was in that school. The school Principal joyfully pointed at Mr Adegbenro at the briefing. Immediately, he stepped out, the Colonel called his subordinates to help in dealing with him, gave him a leg over, Mr Adegbenro fell face down. All the teachers and the Principal rushed to the scene to save him from the 🐸 frog jump punishment. Then, the Colonel narrated his ordeal that he came out of secondary school with no results believing Mr Adegbenro 's saying that he doesn't have future until he came across someone who sat him down, re-enroll him starting from SS II again and also, he said he came purposely not for himself but for other students whose lives might have been in shambles without amendment. Other teachers were speechless and terrified and the shame could not allow Mr Adegbenro surface again, hẹ sought for immediate voluntary retirement... Typical example of a NEGATIVE REWARD....

Short Sited STRS Ohio does it again. They cave to the interest of a few while hurting active teachers and employees of STRS Ohio. STRS Ohio should stay focused on funding for ALL educators. Retirees, active members and soon to be teachers. Big changes are needed in the investment department. They are the only STRS employees who benefit in good times, but bring the entire staff down with them when times are bad. It happened when I was there from 00'-07' and continues today. The change being considered is NOT good for all OH educators. It's too bad that the "reformers" are nothing more then a face for a political interest group. Are you a young person (or parent) who doesn't think university is right for them. Are you wondering why you (they) have to start out in life with the equivalent of a mortgage to pay back before even getting a job. Are you wondering why your parents have a great pension plan and you won't have access to that. A 'pretty straight kinda guy of the people' is the reason. (not my words). The Tories are abysmal and don't deserve our votes but if you're thinking Labour may be better take a look back at their track record. 1. Fiddled the unemployment figures by raising the school leaving age to 18 2. Destroyed apprenticeships 3. Pushed our kids to unsuitable universities 4. Introduced tuition fees 5. Destroyed final salary pension schemes 6. Presided over the GFC due to poor regulation by their introduction of the FSA (2002). and somehow this first family of the people amassed an estimated net worth in excess of £200m......makes you think. 🤔 Whoever you vote for scrutinise their promises and dig deeper because if we don't hold them to account at the ballot box no one will. 5.1.24 UPDATE CONCERNING STRS Please understand that Governor DeWine and his party are dead set on ruining our Ohio public school system by diverting education funds to charter schools and vouchers and looting our public pension system. He is supporting the continuation of the looting of our pension system by refusing to allow Wade Steen to be reinstated on the Board as a 10th-District Court Magistrate ruled on 2.9.24. Instead, the Governor appointed another man, Brian Perera to the Board for the remainder of Wade Steen’s term. On 4.18.24 the 10th-District Court ruled that Wade Steen was illegally removed from the Board and reinstated him. Only an hour after he was reseated on the Board, Board chair Dale Price (Toledo Public Schools Teacher) chose to adjourn the Board meeting, which was objected to by the majority of the Board, now a 6-5 reform majority. Dale Price called for a 15-minute recess, took his belongings and left the meeting, never to return. The Assistant Attorney General then came to the podium and announced that the meeting was ended, which he had absolutely no authority to do. The corruption and collusion between STRS administrators and Ohio politicians were clearly shown on that day. You can go to orta.org and view some of the NBC4 News Broadcast of the proceedings. This is unbelievable! We are forced to wait until the Board meeting this month to start change. The corruption just never seems to stop because these people can get away with doing whatever they want in order to keep control of educator’s funds. You need to understand that the OEA is totally against reform at STRS. The OEA is doing absolutely nothing to protect your future retirement. The OEA has been very detrimental to every STRS member because of the failure of their Board members to be good fiduciaries for over 30 years. This is unlawful and inexcusable! It is us against them and educators continue to be the losers. Our corrupt Ohio politicians are trying as hard as they can to ruin education in Ohio. Please be sure to vote for Michelle Flanigan during the April election. We must take the control of our pension system away from the status quo Board and politicians. Actives & those on disability are eligible to vote for the one Board active seat up for election this April. Voting ends May 6th at 4:30pm.
