At the 12th Annual Boys & Girls Club of Evansville Community Clean Up in Indiana, 61 #TeamOneMain volunteers pitched in with Mayor Stephanie Terry, 134 students and 20 Club staff members to pick up trash and keep the community where we live and work clean and beautiful.
As we wrap up #BlackHistoryMonth, we must remember: work needs to be done to combat the problem of disproportionality, which affects black children and families, as well as other minority populations in foster care. As we acknowledge the work of those before us, let us use their example to guide us as we continue working on behalf of the most vulnerable children and families. For more on disproportionality visit https://bit.ly/38aTWvV.
Violence takes many forms. Sometimes people are punished for it (street violence) and sometimes people are revered for it (think Robert Moses). Make no mistake, *this* kind of state sponsored violence contributed and continues to contribute to our #gunviolence problem, destroying community fabric, draining equity, and causing trauma. We are thrilled to partner with SFF to advance the human, social, health and economic rights of widows in Kenya.
Access and ownership of property, especially land, is one of the most violated economic rights of widows.
As we start 2024, Nyanam widows will be
- critically analyzing their experiences with land since widowhood
- increasing their awareness on their land rights and process for land ownership
- designing and implementing social action projects to improve their land ownership
At societal level, much needs to change to advance women’s land rights.
The practice that women have no voice on land matters should stop
The practice that land is registered only in the names of male family members should stop
The practice of denying childless widows land should stop
Do you know what makes the first Wednesday of 2024 a thousand times better?! 😜 Welcoming excellent partners like Nyanam Widows Rising to our family. Please show them some love! 💚
Nyanam is a restorative justice organization preparing widows to lead positive community transformation through holistic programs in leadership, health, livelihoods and economic empowerment, justice and human rights, and youth education.
Why do we love them? 🤓
Nyanam centers all of its programs on the widows’ voices and needs. Their paralegal training is integral to empowering widows to understand their rights and advocate for themselves in the justice system.

We Have the Power to Do What Is Right - BOSS SJC Youth Collective
How do you get involved? First and foremost, make sure you are REGISTERED TO VOTE.
One of the best ways to get involved is with initiatives like the BOSS Bay Area's Social Justice Collective voting campaign, IMPACT THE VOTE. This campaign mobilizes, educates, and inspires communities to participate actively in the democratic process, emphasizing the importance of informed and engaged voting to enhance social justice. By joining forces with such movements, individuals can amplify their impact by joining a more considerable collective effort.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, the day marking the end of slavery in the United States, we are reminded of the ongoing journey towards true equality and justice. Affordable housing is a critical piece of this puzzle.
The Legacy of Housing Inequality 🏠 :
For too long, systemic racism has created barriers to affordable housing for Black communities. From redlining to discriminatory lending practices, the legacy of these injustices continues to impact families today.
Juneteenth is not only a day to celebrate freedom but also a call to action. We must continue to advocate for policies that ensure equitable access to affordable housing. This includes supporting fair housing laws, increasing funding for affordable housing projects, and promoting inclusive community development.
How You Can Help:
Educate Yourself: Learn about the history of housing discrimination and its impact on Black communities.
Advocate: Support local and national initiatives that aim to create affordable housing opportunities.
Get Involved: Volunteer with organizations dedicated to housing justice and support efforts to create inclusive neighborhoods.
We can honor the spirit of Juneteenth by working towards a future where everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home.

Hurt often comes from where love should reside.
Children deserve spaces to explore, learn, and grow without fear or harm. We must return to the days when the community raises the child, and predators are denied safe haven to harm them.
More targeted and evidence-based interventions are needed to tackle cultural issues that cause people to become vile against children.
We must reverse the culture of silence through education. We must mobilize communities to reject elements that harm children.
Collective action is required to create safer communities for our children. Children need to be heard, not just seen, and their voices matter.
