A consortium of Boskalis and Orient Cable (NBOS) has completed the pull-in and burial of the second export cable for TenneT's Hollandse Kust West Beta offshore grid connection at the landfall location in Velsen-Noord, the Netherlands. The 700 MW grid connection will link the offshore wind farm that RWE will build in the Dutch North Sea to the national grid. The nearshore part of the second subsea cable has been buried in the seabed off the coast of Velsen-Noord, running for approximately 3.5 kilometres and under the dunes. The power cable was installed at a depth of eight metres on the beach and in the seabed by the BSSIII burial machine, same as the first nearshore export cable section which was installed in May. The cables at the landfall are connected to the electricity cables on land, from where the electricity produced offshore can feed in at the high-voltage transformer station in Wijk aan Zee. The NBOS consortium will now connect the end of the second cable to the remaining part offshore. Using two cable-laying vessels, a burial vessel and a burial machine, the consortium will install the remainder of the export cable and bury it at the 'socket' that TenneT has built 53 kilometres off the coast of Egmond aan Zee. RWE and the Dutch transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT signed an offshore grid connection agreement for the new offshore wind farm in September 2023. The grid connection will be operational by 2026 and RWE's offshore wind farm, named OranjeWind, is expected to be fully commissioned the following year. RWE won the right to build and operate the subsidy-free offshore wind farm at the Hollandse Kust West (HKW) VII site in November 2022. After securing the project site, RWE said the OranjeWind project would incorporate a floating solar farm, a subsea lithium-ion battery, and a LiDAR system to predict power production more accurately. In addition, the developer said it also planned to invest in onshore integration such as electrolysis capacity and e-boilers, to match power generation and offtake. #renewableenergy #wind #engineering #carbon60 #energy #offshorewind

🚢🏗 Ports are the key logistic hubs for #windenergy. For offshore wind this seems self-explanatory - the turbine pieces need to be transported to sea. But it's also true for onshore wind. 🚚👷♂️ Ports are the entrance points for many components. Hinterland connections connect them to the onshore wind construction sites. Insufficient port #infrastructure is putting Europe's onshore wind expansion plans at serious risk. Europe needs to invest €8.5bn in its ports by 2030 to get them ready for the upcoming onshore and offshore wind installations. The German Government just decided to contribute to a 30-hectare expansion of the heavy-duty offshore terminal in the port of Cuxhaven, which is key to the import of blades and nacelles from southern #Europe and elsewhere. Together with the State of Niedersachsen and private companies, the German Government is investing €300m in total. 🙌🙌 Read more in our news piece: https://lnkd.in/ea5TE7MN 📸 Port Esbjerg

Economic development is a journey, requiring a team approach by all involved. The most successful opportunities forge lasting relationships that not only grow the economy; they enhance the community. Sometimes the most rewarding journeys start with previous dreams not realized. For example, just over two years ago, a $267 million project was announced for the same site that LS GreenLink will be located. The 2022 project did not come to fruition due to factors not related to the site. The strategic location has been waiting for decades, through a variety of ownership scenarios, for the optimum prospect. Perseverance is paying off for the Chesapeake Economic Development team. In terms of team approach, LS GreenLink garnered bi-partisan Congressional support to be awarded $99.06M from the U.S. Department of Energy for Qualifying Advanced Energy Project Credits (48C). Under Douglas L. Smith’s leadership at the Hampton Roads Alliance, Steve Harrison and Matt Smith aided in the 48C application process as well as other ways. By law, 48C provides investment tax credit up to 30% of qualified investments for certified qualifying advanced energy projects that meet prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements. https://lnkd.in/ekUSCfvx . Also, several business leaders from across the region were, and continue to be, instrumental in welcoming LS GreenLink in addition to its own team doing tremendous work. While we are very excited about the announcement, we do not quantify economic development announcements in the City of Chesapeake. We measure successes in terms of actual businesses served as well as expanded and new industry once they are in the ground, in the air or on the water doing business. For LS GreenLink, it will be all three: land, sea and air. Keeping heads down on the outcome, while honoring the entitlement process, keeps the City of Chesapeake focused on diligent follow-through and not resting until a certificate of occupancy is in hand and the business is fully up and running. Stimulating commerce throughout the region and Virginia is meaningful work. We believe the region and Commonwealth are stronger together; that the individual strengths of the cities, counties and towns that comprise the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission should be celebrated for their uniqueness. We aspire for cohesiveness that bonds, and nothing bonds us more in this region than what we are named after: Hampton Roads - -the body of water at the confluence of our localities. Economic development requires a tremendous amount of commitment and talent. Major kudos to Steven Wright, Preston Wilhelm and (now City Treasurer) Ben White and the team at Chesapeake Economic Development to get to this frontier. We believe LS Cable & System's new investment will be one of the most impactful opportunities over time. We are thankful for the relationship being developed and excited for them to be part of our community.
We’re proud to announce LS GreenLink USA, Inc. is investing $681 million in a new subsea cable manufacturing facility right here in Chesapeake, VA. This historic project will add more than 300 new local jobs. Read the full press release to learn more about how this milestone will help continue to solidify Chesapeake as a leader in the offshore wind industry: https://lnkd.in/eKaUAcYw

Heerema has signed a reservation agreement for the Polish offshore wind projects Bałtyk II & III. The scope of work appears to include foundation installation and substation installation. The Polish projects Bałtyk II & III are a joint effort between Equinor and Polenergia, with a total of 100 turbines expected to produce a capacity of 1440 MW. The project will utilize monopile foundations, which Heerema will install. Heerema's investment in the Thialf, equipped with a motion compensation gripper for monopile installation, increases the likelihood of Thialf being assigned to this project. Bałtyk II & III are part of several projects scheduled to become operational in the coming years. Image source: Heerema Marine Contractors Equinor | Polenergia
