I recently talked with a very smart guest on our soon-to-be-released podcast, Gabriel Hopkins. He explained one thing that stuck with me. He said, "Product managers need to work end to end." What he meant is that there are companies with PRODUCT MANAGERS dedicated to speaking to customers and understanding the market context, and then there are TECHNICAL PRODUCT MANAGERS who write and review stories for the dev team. He calls this setup 𝔡𝔬𝔬𝔪𝔢𝔡 𝔱𝔬 𝔣𝔞𝔦𝔩𝔲𝔯𝔢. Companies end up with two (or more) people responsible for the same thing but with different outlooks on life. Instead, Gabriel suggests companies should avoid adding more links in the chain. This means the same person who speaks to customers and hears their challenges also sits with the engineering team, working truly END to END. We spent 45 minutes together.
