It's also important to stay up-to-date with the latest Salesforce features and updates and connect with other Salesforce professionals through events and online communities. Finally, showcase your skills and experience through blogging, speaking at events, and community contributions to build your personal brand. It's not your fault. But it is now your responsibility to do the right thing. Relinquish this great power for the betterment of the org. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂? 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁.. ✅ Should have Admin permissions: • Certified Salesforce Professionals • 1 member of the executive team, preferably the CFO, for assigning certified pros with admin permissions and general Account management (licenses, contract renewals, etc.) ❌ Shouldn't have Admin permissions: • Everyone else 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 👇 Most of the issues I see are entirely preventable, but it's the lack of coordination and education of the folks making changes that cause the pain. This is why having a dedicated #businesssystems / #revops team is so crucial. Not being able to view a report is not a good enough reason to assign Admin permissions. ➡️ Fix the sharing settings on report & dashboard folders instead. Not being able to bypass exit/entry criteria on an Opportunity is not a good enough reason either. ➡️ Learn how to properly move a deal through the buying process or partner with a SFDC Admin to change the enforced rules. Not being able to integrate/authenticate another system with Salesforce is ALSO not a good enough reason. ➡️ Work with certified, technical experts to integrate new tools to avoid the inevitable data mess you're about to create. 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

Salesforcin' comes in many flavors. This became starkly apparent many years ago when a Salesforce developer was helping me troubleshoot something.  We needed to know how many records there were that met some criteria for a certain object. “Got it!” In unison, we indicated that we knew the answer, and each turned our laptops a bit so the other could see.    Then, simultaneously, we both asked, “What is that?” He had run a search through the Developer Console. At that time, I had no idea there was such a thing or that one could use SOQL to query the data. 🤔🤔 I’d used my Admin skills and quickly ran a report with a chart to visualize the data.  He’d never used the standard reporting features. Two experienced Salesforce professionals.  Two totally different perspectives. Your version of Salesforcin’ might involve code or clicks or both. It might involve a big company, a small start-up, a college, a not-for-profit, or anything in between. You might help companies solve sales challenges, reduce friction when customers have issues, or fine-tune their manufacturing forecast.  You might interact with marketing, IT, donors, or no one at all if you take a “behind-the-scenes” role. You might be a generalist or hone in on something very specific, like CPQ or deploying Salesforce for insurance brokers. Find your flavor. Leverage your skills and interests. I've been seeing quite a few posts that make me realize that a lot of companies seem to have a very narrow view of the role for a Salesforce Admin. These posts usually talk about developers bringing more values than admins, and that admin work can be outsourced or managed services. The people posting all have a very similar backgrounds. They all come from the traditional App Dev world, where everyone has a specific "role". It's also a world where the business asks, and IT delivers. The thing that sets Salesforce Admins apart, and brings so much value, is that they can, and should, wear multiple hats. My admins did support, training, documentation, QA, BA, troubleshooting, and even solutioning. I expected them to be able to use the tools they were supporting to do the job better than the users. My goal was for 80% of the ideas for our changes to come from my admins, and my developers, spotting a place we could make an impact, and then we take it to the business. In most industries it's hard to find business users who really understand technology if it isn't their job. A Salesforce admin should be a person who understands technology, and who's job it is to learn the business. They should be SMEs for the business processes they are supporting.

Is not just about managing user accounts or troubleshooting technical issues. It's about carving a path for efficient business processes and enabling the company to unlock the full potential of Salesforce. An administrator holds the key to the world of customization. They have a deep understanding of the company's unique needs and can configure the system in a way that fits perfectly. From creating custom fields and automating workflows, they drive efficiency and boost productivity. In addition, they ensure data integrity, perform regular audits, and stay on top of the latest updates. They act as a bridge between the technical team and non-tech savvy users, simplifying complex problems into comprehensible solutions. In essence, the role of a Salesforce administrator is to steer the company towards technological advancement, while ensuring user satisfaction and improving the overall business operation.
