At NYU Langone Health Medical Associates - Penn District, we’ve embraced daylighting as the central organizing element for the layout of this multi-specialty clinic. Beyond framing sweeping views of Penn Station’s iconic marble façade, the large windows that ring the north side of the building provide an abundance of natural light in the space. Situating the entry area, waiting room, and patient circulation along the perimeter of the floorplan, light plays a functional role in wayfinding for patients, which is further complemented by the installation of stretch ceiling lighting systems above major points of interaction between patients and staff. Our meticulous attention to detail, from planning to interior finishes, underscores our commitment to creating healthcare environments that are both sophisticated and functional. https://lnkd.in/e_iYSCq8 #healthcare #architecture #healthcaredesign #pennstation #hudsonyards

The Northern Railway Diagnostic Center, spread over 3500 SF is an adaptive reuse stand-alone block that breathes life into a dilapidated ancillary building of the Northern railway central hospital campus. This design approach aims to significantly reduce the stress levels for patients, creating a soothing atmosphere, exuding a sense of tranquility and promoting patient comfort. The large transparent entrance lobby is adorned with warm healing colours in beige and brown shades and smooth curved forms that have been derived from neuro-aesthetic design principles. The user-centric approach ensures minimal exposure to natural light for accurate readings of shades of grey for precise diagnoses in the diagnostic rooms. Illuminated skylights with natural colours, patterns, and lighting have been incorporated to ease patients psychologically. #CDArchitecture #WeareCDA #ArchitectureDesign #DiagnosticCenter #AdaptiveReuse #Repurposing #InnovativeDesign #InteriorDesign #HealingSpaces #Architecture #Design #PatientCare

A study conducted in 1984 by Roger Ulrich, examined the restorative effects of nature views on pain and antianxiety medication use. Patients with a view of trees were hospitalised for a shorter time (7.96 days) than patients who had a view of a brick wall (8.7 days). It is not always possible to create a space with a 'view of trees' however, the next best option is to bring nature in. With the use of living walls, planters, moss walls and moss art it is possible to get those restorative benefits and it is something we are passionate about at Verti-Grow. #biophilicdesign #biophilic #biophilicarchitecture #biophilicinteriordesign #interiordesignbrighton #Greeninteriordesign #officedesign #commercialdesign #homeofficedesign #architect #architecturefirm

In the post-pandemic era, the emphasis on touch-free operation has gained importance in healthcare projects through various technologies, such as sensor doorways and the incorporation of HIoT (Healthcare Internet of things) in medical furniture, such as patient beds. The primary criteria for product selection in hospital interiors are driven by factors such as infection control, which includes a high degree of cleanability, resistance to electricity, dents, abrasion, etc. Further considerations include abstaining from finishes which are VOC-emitting or require frequent maintenance. Hospitals are high-traffic areas that are continuously used every day of the year. Anti-bacterial finishes are prevalent in high-touch and high-footfall surfaces. As a result, their interior surfaces are subject to enduring treatment. The innovations in materials and interiors enable hospitals to respond to the changing healthcare environment and the needs of the people. #CDArchitecture #HospitalInteriors #Materials #InfectionControl #InnovativeMaterials #Design #Architecture #HealingEnvironments #HospitalDesign #Interiors #HospitalArchitecture

Contemporary health care environments require a unique juxtaposition between the clinical need for medical treatment, sterility and access to complex technology, and providing a space that is positive, uplifting, welcoming and dignified for patients, caregivers and families. In a review document produced by University of New South Wales and the Research Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity in 2008, 'The Health Impacts of the Design of Hospital Facilities on Patient Recovery and Wellbeing, and Staff Wellbeing' authored by Amanda Ampt, Patrick Harris and Michelle Maxwell, outcomes were as impactful as reported pain reduction with exposure to sunlight and provision of a window with a view, self-reported positive mood changes in the general patient population associated with access to garden areas, and a stress reduction when rooms contain colourful textiles or patterns, as it creates a home-like feel. Carabiner focus on designing public buildings that empower and inspire the people who use them, and we believe that features such as access to views and natural daylight; connection to nature; good acoustics; good indoor air quality; intuitive wayfinding; and appropriate use of colours, patterns and textures play a critical part in providing spaces that support wellbeing. A standardised design approach may not work for all healthcare spaces. Healthcare spaces must cater to the specific needs of each patient category. For example, designing healthcare spaces for children requires us to consider their unique environmental perception and associated behaviour. Between the ages of three and fourteen, children develop familiarity with basic shapes, nature trees, and colours. Therefore by including functional and visual elements in healthcare spaces can enhance the well-being of young patients. Such elements can be incorporated into the design of paediatric clinics and hospitals. A paediatric healthcare space should be rendered with a balance of colourful yet calming tones. What other design strategies can help in creating these healing spaces? I would love to hear your opinions. #HealingSpaces #Architecture #Children #Paediatric #ClinicDesign #SpacesForChildren
