Thank you Dr. Stuart Buttlaire and OPEN MINDS Circle for the thought-provoking webinar on Feedback-Informed Care & Patient-Centered Outcomes. All week, I have find myself engaged in conversations with clinicians about ways to implement Feedback-Informed Care, and truly center the client's voice, in our various clinical settings. The enthusiastic and creative responses from practitioners are inspiring, and I am eager to keep this conversation growing. At the agency I co-founded, Therapy Austin, we fostered a culture of feedback with our clinicians, which significantly strengthened us as a company. Extending that culture of feedback into the room makes sense and could serve as a powerful training and supervision tool for clinicians in a variety of settings. As I delve deeper into the insurance side of mental health and the Value-Based Care initiatives driving those contracts, I believe an evidence-based Feedback-Informed Care model of outcomes would better demonstrate the power and effectiveness of a “good fit” therapeutic alliance over snapshot measures of client pathology. Clinicians and clients know the value of client-centered care and understand that it leads to the most positive clinical outcomes. There are studies to support that knowledge. How do we translate our learned experience into the language of outcomes driven healthcare and promote measures that truly show the transformative power of our work? To support this shift, I recommend: 1. Advocating for Feedback-Informed Care: Presenting this model to insurance companies and policymakers as a means to improve client outcomes and satisfaction. 2. Training Clinicians: Providing training and supervision to clinicians on how to integrate Feedback-Informed Care into their practice effectively. 3. Collecting Data: Systematically collecting and analyzing data on the impact of Feedback-Informed Care on client outcomes to build a strong evidence base. 4. Collaborating with Stakeholders: Engaging with various stakeholders, including insurance providers, to demonstrate the value and effectiveness of this approach. Something more sinister is not getting enough attention. Sometimes delay, deny, not pay, claw back, recoupment despite putting in all the time and effort and jumping through all sorts of hoops to obtain prior authorization is worse than prior authorization.
