It was a mess, costing them money & space. Then Happen Ventures stepped in with our Beneficial Reuse Program. Walgreens had a big problem. Hundreds of coolers were just sitting there, taking up valuable space in their warehouse. This is how we turned this challenge into a win for everyone… 1. We checked out the coolers… 2. We got them moving… 3. We teamed up… So what does this mean for Walgreens & the community? → They cut down on storage costs. → Walgreens freed up crucial space for new products. → Local charities got much-needed equipment for their communities. → They made a positive impact on the environment by giving the coolers a second life. Eddy from a local charity told us.. “We are grateful for your donation of 214 of these beautiful coolers. We have already given some to a local fire department for their use. Now that we’ve reached the middle of April, I wanted to share a reminder about Walmart’s 11th annual “Fight Hunger, Spark Change” campaign, which continues through the end of the month. This campaign sees Walmart working alongside customers, members, and suppliers to benefit food banks in communities around the country – food insecurity is something many Americans face every day, and this program can help! I need some help from my financial planner and brokerage friends, here. Solve this mystery for me in two parts... 1) Tell me why this is a problem. 2) Tell me how to solve it. In both institutions I've worked for and in every nonprofit I've volunteered with, we have--with varying frequencies--received gifts of "mystery stock." Fundraisers, you know what I mean. This is when it's year-end, and our finance offices tell us we have received 50 shares of Pepsi stock, but we don't know where it came from. We all rack our brains to think of who might have sent Pepsi stock. We know our donors' kids' names, we know if they're of age to receive RMDs, we know what kind of cars they drive, where they vacation, what inspires them to give--but often we have no idea what type of stock they might give us. Brokerages and finance friends--we KNOW you know who directed this transaction...so where does that information go missing? How is their name not attached to the stock gift? What can we do differently to make sure we know who sent the stock stork with this special delivery? #highered #philanthropy #stockgifts #nonprofit

Who wants their nonprofit to be a jack of all trades but a master of none? Nobody, right? Yet I see many small nonprofits spread themselves thin by having five, ten, or even more programs. Each program they add creates additional complexity while making it harder for them to do any of those programs with excellence. What if we tried a little more of the Five Guys approach? Five Guys is a hamburger chain where you can consistently get a very good burger and fries. They have nothing against seafood, tacos, pizza, chicken, or salads; they just don't do those foods so that they can focus on doing one thing consistently with excellence.
