New Hampshire Food Bank’s Post

Food is so much more than a meal. In addition to its goals of providing NH-grown foods to those experiencing hunger throughout NH, NH Feeding NH is working to connect our partner agencies who serve populations seeking specific culturally preferred foods with local farmers growing those items. Your support today helps us continue to grow and expand this work: https://lnkd.in/ehZ3xTBV In 2023, NH Feeding NH piloted a Culturally Preferred Foods program in partnership with Fresh Start Farms, a local collective of refugee and immigrant farmers to source various types of produce like amaranth, pumpkin leaves, sorrel, daikon, African corn and eggplant, shell beans, sweet potatoes, cabbage and more! Not only does this program help provide increased access to fresh, nutritious foods and support local farms, it allows our partner agencies to provide the foods that those they serve are accustomed to in an environment that is inclusive to all. "One of our shoppers is usually fairly withdrawn. We showed her the pumpkin vines [from NH Food Bank’s NH Feeding NH partnership with Fresh Start Farms] and she almost jumped through the roof with excitement! The African eggplant we received generated just as much enthusiasm! The next time she came in, she was smiling and happy to see more foods amaranth and shell beans!” Nashua Soup Kitchen, NH Food Bank partner agency Give today: https://lnkd.in/ehZ3xTBV
