This dual perspective of hiring and job-seeking is a reminder of the multifaceted nature of our professional journeys. “Entry-level” roles don’t 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 exist. Or at least not in the way we want them to. If you filter jobs by "entry-level," you'll still see roles requiring 3-4 years of experience. That limits your options if you don't meet those requirements, right? 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹! 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 career changer we've worked with landed a role requiring experience they didn’t 𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 have. 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯. → Melissa secured a position needing "8 years of experience" (she had zero). → Jack landed a role where he met only 60% of the qualifications. → Olivia outshined dozens of other candidates with more experience. (𝟯) 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: You've got to WOW hiring managers if you want to beat out more experienced candidates. 𝘉𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦! Guess what? As a recruiter there is nothing more fulfilling than watching people you’ve placed get promoted and advance in their careers.

One question I was often asked during the Lockdown period in 2020 by makeup students & makeup trainees was would it be more difficult to get into the film industry when filming was able to resume. My answer was always the same that I felt that broadcasting companies would introduce more trainee roles to help support film making & to build skilled teams. It was evident there would be a boom in film making & I felt there would be a need for more trainees. It has been the case consistently since 2020 & more companies have recognised they need to develop trainee positions to support the areas that are needing skilled teams. It is really encouraging to see these roles for trainees especially in the hair & makeup field.
