New year, new skills, new designs! As a Master's student in Product Design at the University of Dundee, and things are buzzing in the workshop. Every day is like playing around in a giant toolbox. We're learning about Laser Cutting machines, 3D Printing, and making things that actually work. My classmates, a diverse bunch of design enthusiasts from around the globe, bring their unique perspectives and experiences to the table, fostering a collaborative spirit that fuels innovation. And the best part? We've already notched up two successful modules! From delving into user research and understanding ergonomics to prototyping and testing our designs, each step has been a masterclass in problem-solving and pushing boundaries. Seeing my initial ideas transform into tangible prototypes, ready to be tested and refined, is a feeling I can't quite describe. It's the thrill of creation, the validation of hard work, and the sweet taste of progress – all rolled into one. Dundee itself is a design lover's paradise. There's inspiration everywhere, from the V&A museum to guest talks by industry legends. I'm learning tons, both the technical stuff and how to be a well-rounded designer. Excited for what 2024 holds! Think for instance about U2's 360 Degree, Roger Waters' The Wall, the Main Stage at Tomorrowland, or Las Vegas' Sphere, to name just a few. But any significant advances in how stages are constructed are as much about the safety of the people working and performing on them as they are about spectacular aesthetics. They also need to be transportable, and preferably sustainable and adaptable. What will the stages of the future look like and how will they affect the nature of the events they’re part of? Can 3D printing provide the raw material for building new and ever more spectacular stages, or is some other technological advance such as super-light rigs or ever more powerful lights and lazers more likely to open new doors to stage designers? Since my MSc architecture days at the Delft University of Technology I’ve had a profound interest in disruptive and innovative technologies such as robotic fabrication through additive manufacturing. My graduation project highlights the potential it has to integrate different parameters through free-form geometries and to optimise the use of materials. Makerspaces play a vital role in education, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that complement traditional classroom instruction. A little insight into the development of the Pebbles; the smart breathing coach in you hands

Between 2018 and early 2022 I completed a PhD in the School of Design at RMIT titled: “From the Deterministic to the Emergent: Design strategies for Networked Audio-Visual Nodal Systems” Tomorrow will be the first public showing of the installation I designed through this PhD, in the Industrial School of the Sacred Heart building at the Abbotsford Convent. It has several future incarnations...it’s a sophisticated and complex system that I plan to continue working on. One day I also hope to present it as a live performance tool. It’s the distillation of a lot of thinking, head-to-wall-banging and hand-wringing. It also involved lots of soldering, 3D printing, electronics, and objected-oriented C++ software development across two different hardware platforms. One of the motivations for this project was the exploration of the transition of computational aesthetics from virtual space to physical space, with immersion as a by-product and a substrate. One thread that emerged from this work was an acknowledgement of the tendency of technological aesthetic interventions to create spaces of alterity. In particular, technological art installations that attempt to signify the natural world often end up expressing an atmosphere that is strange, abstract and alien. This is the logic of the machine, and moving forward I’m interested in exploring the uncomfortable yet hypnotising spaces in which we find ourselves reflected by the machines we have created. We created our first physical product to solve a problem! Last semester, my teammates Divyesh Lakhotia , Vidhi Tomar, and I embarked on a journey to solve some of the common challenges content creators face. Through the design thinking process, we identified key issues like cluttered workspaces and a lack of organization. The result? Tabletop Manager for Content Creators – a solution designed with creators in mind. Our tabletop manager comes equipped with: • A cable manager to keep those wires under control • A mobile/tablet holder for easy access to your devices • A dedicated headphone stand • A small shelf at the back for notebooks and books • A pen holder for small stationery items like pens and scissors To bring our idea to life, we even 3D printed a low-scale version via additive manufacturing, for demonstration. It was amazing to see our design come to life and to be able to present it to our peers and professors. This project was a perfect example of how design thinking can be applied to create practical solutions for everyday problems. Looking forward to continuing to innovate and bring more ideas to life! 🌟

✨ 3D Printed Park by Robots. 🤖 🚀 Benches, Paths and Sculptures. 🎯 An American company by the name of Advanced Intelligent Construction Technology (AICT), has designed and built the World’s First 3D Printed Public Park, located at the Shenzhen International Convention & Exhibition Centre in China. 💡 The finished park consists of more than 2,000 concrete pieces, including various sculptures, benches, flower beds, retaining walls, and curbs. 🖼 The overall cost for the 55000 square feet park is less than $650k.
