I’ve been fond of stories my entire life. It’s what drew me to theatre in high school and college, and what led to me pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. I want to be in the business of making people happy every single day. What I love about working at NBCUniversal is how many opportunities I have to grow and challenge myself. I also can’t deny the perks such as (to name a few) of being able to attend screenings and go to Universal for free don’t hurt. My biggest tip for those looking to work in entertainment is to have a compelling why. Draft your narrative of why it’s important for you to continue your career with that company. I tried to dig deep and make my reason personal and tried my best to tailor my resume to each role. I spent more than 10 years focusing in the operations and technical part of the broadcast industry. But a year ago I did a huge move with big expectations from myself. I decided to push my limits and move towards a different branch inside the company, now my worries are not what it hasn’t been edited for the show, now I need to take make sure that my servers are running smooth and the systems are ready for the shows. Also making sure our transmitter is up and the signals are stable. It's in those spaces of uncertainty and discomfort where we truly discover what we're capable of achieving. So, let's celebrate the power of stepping out of our comfort zones and continuing to grow! 🌱 🔥 It's easy to get comfortable in our routines, but the truth is, staying in our comfort zones can limit our potential. Let's talk about the elephant in room future employers: I've been asked more than a few times if I'm going to try to go back to Disney. I think it may have even cost me roles, because they assume I'm a short timer just waiting for a role to open at Disney then I'll leave. I want to make it clear to all future employers, I have no plans to go back. I loved my time at Disney, but that time is over. All I'm looking forward to now is taking everything I've learned working with multiple companies inside Disney (ABC, ESPN, Pixar, Lucas, Marvel, Disney parks, Fox and Studios) to my new company to help grow and strengthen their security programs. I really thought long and hard about this during the first two weeks I was laid off. And as I've interviewed, I've become more and more excited about learning new environments and solving new problems. And most of all working with and mentoring new people! So for all my possible future employers reading this know my days at Disney are done when I accept your offer I don't have any plans to leave. I'm looking for my next career step, not just a job.
