Dr. Kristie Angela Moreland and I both identify as being Black Americans. We both grew up in Southern California. About 15 minutes from each other but didn’t meet until we were stationed in Germany Together. My family is mostly from New York, go figure, lol. Kristie’s family on her mother’s side is from Nicaragua, her father is from Alabama, but lived in California. Although we both identify as Black Americans, we learned quickly, that our Blacks were different. Being Black but being raised by a Latina mother provided Kristie with a different vantage point. We learned that we had very different viewpoints on a lot of things. She was raised a Catholic, I was raised Pentecostal. We are Black and Different…. As I travel around the country, I realize, Blacks that grew up in the South are very different than Blacks in New York. I didn’t know this growing up. I always saw Blacks as monolithic, the same. But we are very diverse inside our own culture. Be it language, viewpoints, music, food, politics, religion. I thought all Blacks new that sugar went on Grits. Imagine my surprise when I found out that they were taught wrong. And contrary to popular belief, all Black People can’t dance. Now add in my Operations Manager, Dr. Marci Batiste, QAP who is from Iowa, mixed race parents. She was raised by her White mom but is also Black American. She adds a whole other perspective. I’m just thinking out loud, reflecting on some of our Team Meetings… The convos get pretty intense. They try to tag team on me, because usually the Compton Way is the right way to see things. This type of diversity helps us look at things from very different and unique vantage points. Whether it’s a hot button news topic or the programs we create for our clients. We never start with the same unified opinion when we are talking about a subject. I’m curious, does anyone else have some unique relationships that help you see things from a different perspective?

In a world where traditional narratives often spotlight black success in sports and entertainment, we're on a journey to change the story. We're striving for "More Black CEOs" and "More Black Billionaires" to not just represent wealth but to redefine what success means for black individuals. The vision goes beyond personal wealth; it's about using the power of collaboration to drive global advancement. When we talk about "billionaires," we're referring to visionary minds with plans larger than traditional capital can achieve. We see wealth as a tool for evolution and progress, just like any piece of technology. What sets our mission apart is the recognition of our unique heritage and the added responsibility we bear. Our counterparts often aim to perpetuate inherited wealth, but our duty extends to reaching back into our communities and the black diaspora to repair historical damage. It's about helping more than just ourselves or setting up our lineage; we must address the disparities that affect many who look like us and come from where we're from. It's a call to action to rewrite the narrative, support, mentor, and nurture the next generation of black business leaders and billionaires.
