Looking forward to hearing what John Fink has to say! #dualenrollment101
Dual Enrollment 101 In this episode, guest John Fink breaks down the essentials of what dual enrollment actually means. Here are a few high level takeaways to get you up to speed on dual enrollment. - Dual enrollment is an umbrella term with many different arrangements - It involves high school students taking college courses for credit through a partnership with a post-secondary institution - Courses can be taught at the high school, college, or online by either college instructors or qualified high school teachers - Models range from intensive early college high schools to individual course offerings Fink positions dual enrollment as a promising approach to increase college readiness, access, and success, while noting the importance of intentional implementation to ensure quality and equitable outcomes. #veterans - The GI Bill is a great benefit that our Military Veterans have earned, often at great cost. But most Student Veterans are unable to finish their degrees with just the GI Bill. As nontraditional students, these Veterans (and often their spouses) face financial barriers that make the goal of a college degree nearly impossible. Student Veterans attending Texas A&M bring notable strengths that will impact our State, Nation & World. Creating Endowed Scholarships at Texas A&M for Veterans and their spouses make lasting impacts that serve future generations of Veterans who aspire to call themselves Aggies. YOU can help make that impact a reality.
Scholarships change students’ lives, and no one says it better than our own Al Pulliam ’87, assistant vice president for scholarship programs. 👍 We are thrilled to share his passion and expertise with you in our new Giving Academy video series on creating scholarships at Texas A&M University. Dive in as he discusses the need for scholarships in Aggieland and the many options for customizing your gift! Check it out: https://bit.ly/3wdXxuM

Two years ago we created the Drs. Davis and Alexander Honorary Scholarship Fund to recognize the legacy and leadership of Drs. Terri Davis and Apryl Alexander at the University of Denver and in the overall psychology community. This scholarship fund specifically provides support to BIPOC students within our former department, the Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP). As described here (Addressing the Shortage: The Crucial Need for BIPOC Therapists in America’s Diverse Communities – MHA Spartanburg), and elsewhere, the demand for representative care from BIPOC therapists is related to their unique ability to provide a shared cultural experience and understanding for BIPOC patients. Yet, there is a dramatic shortage - the current ratio of BIPOC persons to BIPOC therapists (1,002:1) is woefully inadequate to meet currently growing mental health needs nationwide. As we continue to honor Drs. Davis and Alexander, both of whom go above and beyond to train more BIPOC providers via their teaching, mentorship, advocacy, and modeling, we know we need more funding to continue to support new BIPOC providers entering the field. Graduate coursework in psychology costs tens of thousands of dollars and student loan debt is a main reason potential trainees choose not to enter or to leave the field. Friends and colleagues, please consider donating anything you are able to support a BIPOC trainee to continue their studies in Psychology. And/or please share this post to widen our giving audience. Together, we can help diversify the field, encouraging all who need care to seek support.

CFES Brilliant Pathways gathered together education, nonprofit and business leaders to focus on challenging trends that are having uneven effects on American students, during a two-day conference focused on helping underserved students thrive in higher education and discover rewarding careers. The “Accelerating Change: New Frontiers in College and Career Readiness” Conference was held earlier this month in Burlington, Vt., drawing 300 participants from the education, nonprofit and business arenas from 14 states. In particular, students are viewing post-secondary education more warily, opting for more hands-on or entrepreneurial opportunities that are likely to generate more immediate income rather than accumulating college debt, educators told participants at the conference. “This is a time of structural shift, and we need to prepare students for the challenges these changes will certainly bring,” said Tara Smith, chief operating officer of CFES. You can read more about the conference at https://lnkd.in/gb8EaiN6. CFES Brilliant Pathways is a global leader in helping K-12 underserved students from rural and urban communities become college and career ready, giving students an opportunity to forge their own route to a bright future. At St. Louis University High, 45.2 = 100. Huh? Some of my former Algebra 1 students may not be surprised at this odd-looking equation. But I'm confident math is sound. 45.2% of SLUH students receive need-based financial aid. That's an astounding figure. What's more impressive is that 45.2% represents 100% – as in, SLUH meets the need for 100% of our families' demonstrated financial aid. We're less than two weeks away from the 6th Annual St. Louis U. High Day. Your gift can make a huge impact on our students because your gift allows them access to the excellence that is a SLUH education. Learn more at sluhday.sluh.org – and set a reminder to make your gift on Nov. 9. #sluhmeetstheneed #sluhday
