Check out my conversation with CCRJP about starting Restorative Jeff Co!
"CCRJP: How did Restorative Jeff Co get started? Jenna: There has been a lot of desire and work to get restorative justice work in Jefferson County over the last 15 years or so. I feel like our current success rests on the work of others, namely Liz Porter-Merrill, who educated and mobilized community stakeholders. The stakeholder group decided they would apply for a grant to hire someone to develop what has become Restorative Jeff Co. I was hired and started working a year ago and already had partners who were interested in starting the work. As relationships are the foundation of restorative justice, they are also the foundation of Restorative Jeff Co. We started by building those relationships and continue to strengthen them and work toward more connections within the county." #RestorativeJeffCo #RestorativeColorado https://conta.cc/483eaXa

The Children’s Rights and Business Principles) highlight two core actions from business: 1. The corporate responsibility to respect children’s rights across their own activities and through their business relationships. 2. The corporate commitment to support children’s rights through voluntary actions – such as business activities, investments, advocacy, and partnerships - that improve the safety and wellbeing of children. The Australian Child Safeguarding Business Coalition is working with businesses to ensure that these actions are not only understood but implemented to ensure safe environments for children and young people. I’m a divine disruptor who thinks big about what’s possible. Let’s connect if you’re interested in community, culture, justice, politics, dismantling racism, etc.
The Kentucky Movement Assembly is next week and we have an amazing line-up for you! Forward Justice Action Network, Homes For All South, Kentuckians For The Commonwealth, Kentucky Civic Engagement Table, Kentucky Poor People's Campaign, Kentucky Tenants, Louisville Showing Up for Racial Justice, Louisville Tenants Union, VOCAL-KY, and a growing number of supporting organizations are presenting the Kentucky Movement Assembly. The Kentucky Movement Assembly is a space for activists, organizers, students, faith leaders, and community folks from across our Commonwealth to join together, share stories, and take action on public policy. The assembly will collectively answer: 1) What are the problems that we face in Kentucky? 2) What are some solutions to those problems? 3) What are we going to do with those solutions? Despite the setbacks from our state legislature in recent years, Kentucky has a long history of effective organizing and successful social justice movements. In 2009, Kentucky Jobs with Justice held one of the only statewide social forums in the United States. Now, we're bringing that same energy to the KMA. New OPRE and Child Trends case study brief spotlighting three state initiatives that successfully engaged families with young children in child care and early education (CCEE) strategies. The initiatives saw successes in recruiting diverse parents, creating parent-driven content, and fostering meaningful connections with policymakers. However, they also faced challenges such as recruitment difficulties, the impact of COVID-19, and tracking engagement results. Parents appreciated the training, new connections, ongoing communication, and stipends provided. Virtual meetings and flexible scheduling were crucial in overcoming participation barriers. This case study is a valuable resource for states looking to involve families in their CCEE work, check it out in the link below!

Principal, Chappell Communications Group | Social Media Strategist | Social Justice & Culture Writer
BlackRoots Alliance's Reimagining Public Safety report, in collaboration with Northwestern University, Black Public Defender's Association, and Cook County Public Defender's office, interviewed 103 Black Chicagoans to find out exactly what public safety means to them. And just like the communities surveyed, the meaning of public safety isn't monolithic. Whether it's home, faith-based safe spaces, job security, better community-public defender relationships, more responsive/less aggressive policing, or just being able to walk outside, public safety isn't defined by one aspect. Chappell Communications Group featured some of the report's familial voices to share exactly what public safety means to them. We see our moms, our grandmothers, our grandfathers, our friends, we see ourselves in all of them. We found out that staying engaged and in communication with our community is the red thread that connects the different meanings of public safety. I'm proud that Chappell Communications Group was tapped to help shepherd the marketing leg of this work. #PublicSafey #Chicago #SocialMedia

We're launching restorative justice listening circles for our members. These circles provide a safe space to discuss community matters, facilitated by skilled professionals. Members can choose between in-person or virtual circles. Listening circles are a structured way for everyone to speak and be heard, drawing from meaningful historical traditions. Our attendants will learn more about the history. They help groups make decisions, celebrate successes, resolve conflicts, take responsibility, and support each other during challenges. The goal is for everyone to feel secure sharing their thoughts and knowing they are respected by the entire group. Learn more about PSCSW: https://pscsw.org/
