#GenerativeAI is not only one of the greatest inventions of the century but it’s also a contributing factor to the increased demand for energy after years of fairly flat growth. As more companies build hyperscale data warehouses and AI-hosting facilities, the grid is expected to see peak demand grow by 38 gigawatts over the next five years. How much energy is that? According to Grid Strategies, roughly the amount needed to power 12.7 million homes, slightly more housing units than there are in Texas. With the demand for #energy hitting new peaks, we need to keep scaling up resources that reduce the strain on our grid. One of these resources is #batterybased energy storage. Often referred to as the great enabler, batteries and other forms of energy storage enable clean energy to be stored and quickly dispatched to the grid in areas with a high demand for power. Faster to install than transmission lines and traditional forms of energy generation, energy storage are playing a big role in meeting our rising demand for energy. The”duck curve” is challenging states like California that have turned solar adoption up to 10. 🦆Named after energy demand graphs that resemble the shape of a duck, the curve represents how solar power’s availability peaks during daylight hours, dominating the mix and reducing how much energy is needed from other sources. 📈When solar tapers off in the late afternoon as demand is ramping up, it creates a steep evening ramp in demand (the “neck” of the duck) that needs to be met with other resources as solar’s output drops. As solar production peaks midday, the duck’s “belly” represents the middle of the day. While we can’t change the times of day when the sun shines, we can store solar output when it’s most plentiful and inject it back onto the grid to meet demand across the day. 🔋Since 2020, California has installed more giant battery-based #energystorage projects than anywhere else in the world, except China. Ranging in size from small modular cabinets to football-field sized projects, batteries connect to the grid, charge up when energy is plentiful and cheap, and inject bulk power at times when demand is highest. 💡This past year on April 30th, batteries supplied more than one-fifth of California’s electricity between 7 and 10 PM. MN8 is proud to be part of California’s #cleanenergy transition – for example, our Slate and Mustang projects are providing a combined 490MW solar and 215.25MW/861MWh of energy storage capacity in CAISO. The Olympics are just around the corner and this year we’re cheering for more than just the athletes as we celebrate the #ParisOlympics going for gold in sustainability! This year’s games are focused on utilizing #renewableenergy and limiting carbon emissions. From using LED technology for lighting to installing solar panels on the roof of the new aquatic center, Paris is finding creative paths to reducing the games’ energy consumption. Past host cities have relied heavily on diesel generators to supply electricity to stadiums and the athletes’ village. This year, Paris has decided to connect these venues to the already-existing electricity network, using renewable energy 100% generated in France to support the network during this period. The focus on renewable energy will result in an 80% reduction in energy-related carbon emissions compared to the past model of diesel generators. As we cheer on our athletes this summer, it’s important to remember that we all share this planet and must also work together to ensure we have a sustainable future. Shuck yeah! Our amazing team in New York headed across the East River to Governor’s Island twice over the last month to volunteer with the Billion Oyster Project . The Billion Oyster Project is on a mission to restore oyster reefs in the New York Harbor. Because oysters are filter feeders, each one filters gallons of water daily, improving #waterquality, creating artificial reefs that help protect NYC’s shorelines from storm surges, and contributing to a healthier, more vibrant #ecosystem. During our visits, the MN8 groups had the opportunity to pool efforts for the cause. We had a great time getting our hands dirty together, learning more about the restoration effort and seeing the impact of our work firsthand. Thank you to the Billion Oyster Project for having us. We are honored to play a part in such a fantastic initiative!

#Juneteenth commemorates the anniversary of June 19, 1865 – when the news of freedom arrived in Texas and reached the last remaining enslaved individuals. Today is a day of celebration, marking the end of chattel slavery in the United States and the freedom of future generations. Today is also a reminder that there is so much more to be done in the name of justice and equality. At MN8 Energy, we know that diverse perspectives drive innovation and propel us towards a brighter, more sustainable future. Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion starts in the workplace and extends into the communities we serve and beyond, as we work to create a more inclusive and equitable tomorrow.’ If you’re looking for an avenue to support change in your community, we suggest working with organizations like Black Girls Code, Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Harlem Grown,The Carrie Meek Foundation and the South Florida People of Color, all of which are catalysts for progress for their local communities. As we celebrate Juneteenth, let us renew our commitment to building a future where energy equity is a reality for every individual, regardless of background or circumstance. Did you know that homes and businesses can access #solarenergy without having their own panels? One of the many ways MN8 Energy is advancing clean energy is through #communitysolar projects, an approach that allows multiple individuals and businesses to benefit from a single, shared solar farm. Mostly located off-site, this innovative model provides plenty of advantages without the need for individual solar panel installations. Some of the biggest benefits of community solar: 💸 Costs Savings: In most cases, community solar projects result in reduced electricity bills without the upfront investment of solar panels – providing affordable access to clean energy. 🍃 Environmental Impact: Clean energy is better for the environment than gas and fuel – implementing community solar reduces reliance on other energy alternatives that harm the environment. 🔋 Energy Independence: Community solar to diversify energy sources and reduce reliance on utility companies – making communities less vulnerable to energy price fluctuations and disruptions. 🗝️ Inclusive Access: Community solar allows everyone – from renter to business owner – to have access to solar energy.
