Breaking News! 16 minutes ago...the Florida Supreme Court just released its decision on the proposed constitutional amendment to allow adult personal use of marijuana! (***This is not April Fools!) The ballot summary will read as follows: Ballot Summary: Allows adults 21 years or older to possess, purchase, or use marijuana products and marijuana accessories for non-medical personal consumption by smoking, ingestion, or otherwise; allows Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers, and other state licensed entities, to acquire, cultivate, process, manufacture, sell, and distribute such products and accessories. Applies to Florida law; does not change, or immunize violations of, federal law. Establishes possession limits for personal use. Allows consistent legislation. Defines terms. The DEA’s proposal, which still must be reviewed by the White House Office of Management and Budget, would recognize the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledge it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation’s most dangerous drugs. However, it would not legalize marijuana outright for recreational use. Nebraska officials are questioning the validity of over 49,000 signatures on two petitions to legalize medical cannabis, claiming circulator fraud and notary malfeasance. State Attorney General Mike Hilgers and Secretary of State Bob Evnen have filed a legal brief asking the courts to review the number of valid signatures and potentially void the election results if there are insufficient validated signatures. Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana, the group behind the petitions, criticized the state’s actions, accusing them of attempting to silence voters. The allegations involve improper handling of petitions in 72 counties, including notaries acting outside legal bounds.
