*LOOKING FOR RESPONDENTS FOR A STUDY ON HIGHLY SKILLED MIGRANTS*
Currently we (Heleen Schols, Marina Lazëri, Luna van Dijk and me) are conducting a study on behalf of the Research and Documentation Center (WODC), on why highly skilled migrants choose to move to the Netherlands and why they choose to stay or leave. In this research we aim to gain insight into which factors influence the choice of highly skilled migrants for moving to the Netherlands, including whether and how these migrants consider various elements such as Dutch policies on labor or the reputation of the Netherlands in their decision-making process.
We conduct in-depth interviews with respondents from the different target groups (highly-skilled migrants, recently graduated students with a residence permit for orientation year, self-employed migrants and migrants employed by start-ups).
For the in-depth interviews we are looking for respondents. Are you, or do you know anyone that belongs to one of the above mentioned groups? Please get in touch with me.
We are looking for respondents for a study to better understand knowledge migrants’ relocating decisions. What makes the Netherlands an attractive location, and what can be improved?
We are specifically interested in the views of knowledge migrants from outside the EU.
Please see the flyer for more details. ⬇️

Can we determine in advance if a social project has the potential to sustain its impact once funding ends?
This is the question we address in our study titled "Evaluating the Preconditions for the Sustainability of Interventions’ Positive Effects: Empirical Insights from Migrant Integration Projects in Italy" coauthored with Giulia Bonazzi and Desirée Campagna and presented yesterday at the European Evaluation Society (EES) conference in Rimini Associazione Italiana di Valutazione
In the paper, we develop a theoretical framework based on three key dimensions. Using content analysis, we assess the presence of preconditions for sustainability by examining the final assessments of 137 migrant integration projects in Italy, co-funded by European funds."

The impact of quality-selective migration policies can be limited. Why❓
It's because success in migration is not just about observable "skills". Unobservable characteristics like ability, motivation, and soft skills play a crucial role, along with factors such as migration networks, shared borders, and common languages. Skilled immigrants also consider the overall integration policies and the welcoming nature of the society in their potential destinations.
📊 Effective quality-selective policies must be paired with robust migrant integration policies. The Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) measures these across 56 countries and 8 policy areas.
MPG’s Başak Yavcan highlighted these points at the final conference of the HumMingBird Project.
