The green growth strategy focuses on sustainable economic development and is aligned with global trends on environmentally responsible practices. Investments in renewable energy, eco-friendly infrastructure, and conservation efforts are central to the National Budget 2024/2025. The total investment required to achieve the target of 35% is estimated to be Rs 35 billion over the next 2 years. The additional investment will in turn increase GDP and reduce carbon emissions. Generating energy from renewable sources will help reduce imports of fossils fuels thereby improving our balance of trade and bringing a positive effect on GDP. The impact on GDP is estimated to be 3.8% per year. Learn more from the EDB budget highlights. Energy is life. Access to modern energy (for electricity, cooking, transportation) is necessary for sustainable development. The UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 calls for “affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all” by 2030. Studies have shown a positive and significant causal link from energy use to economic growth and human prosperity. I researched electricity access in Sri Lanka, and the pathways forward here: https://lnkd.in/eiTMC7DY
