Your Dream Job is Within Reach — If You Choose the Right References Mr Drunk Aunt and her boss had a conversation and here’s how it went Boss - Where the hell have you been? I’ve been trying to find you all morning. Drunk Aunt - Good employees are hard to find Anyway…. Today’s video is about references and how choosing the right person for your job reference can make or break your chances of landing your dream job Enjoy the vide and the transcript here… Today, I want to talk about choosing your references wisely. So, you've gone through the interview process, maybe you've had a couple of rounds of interviews and the recruiter or hiring person asks if you can provide one or two people that they can talk to about your work. These are your referees or references that you're providing. First, make sure that you don't give them the boss you're currently working for. Obviously, being on a job hunt or wanting to find your next role is something you'd likely want to keep private for a while. You don't want to alert your company or manager that you're on the lookout for a new role. There could be opportunities coming up in your company, and you might get overlooked if they find out that you're looking elsewhere. Protect yourself by choosing references wisely. Make sure that the people you choose as your points of reference are individuals you've worked with in a previous company, not your current one. Additionally, they should hold your work in high regard. You don't want to choose someone who won't speak highly of you. This means you need to always work at full capacity, giving your best, so that whenever you do need a reference, you're sure to get a good one. The main tip here is to make sure you don't alert your managers by giving them as references. Be smart—choose a previous boss or manager. Another tip is to ensure that it's someone who will give you a good reference and with whom you are aligned. Maybe even call them up, always get permission from someone to use their name as a reference and brief them about the role you're going for. Provide them with some of the criteria of the role so they can comfortably speak to your capabilities. These tips are important to get right because you don't want to have a great in, only to have the people you put forward as your references end up messing up your chances with a bad review. Or, if it's a current manager, some people might give you a bad review because they're upset that you haven't informed them that you're looking for another role. It's simple: always be aware of human nature and how it works. If you’re ready to step-up your career then start by booking 15 minutes with me to review your resume and your next career steps and see if you’re ready to change your life and grab your dream career #careersuccess #careerchange #interviewsuccess https://lnkd.in/g3iDAdtQ
